    Hi,

I am due to travel to Egypt with the travel dept in Sept. I have insurance with them. I know they had trips arranged for Egypt in June.

    Did they go ahead?
Did you get your money back?
Did their travel insurance cover this? (told it would)

    Thanks

Can you give us some context here......

    1. Does your planned holiday involve a visit to Cairo or any of the major cities like Alexandria, Luxor or Aswan?

    2. When you say you have 'insurance with them', I assume you mean that you paid the Travel Dept. for some type of travel insurance, what sort of things does this cover - in particular does it cover cancellation due to civil strife?

General advice on Egypt is that trips to the Red Sea resorts are ok but you should avoid travelling to large urban areas where there is a high probability of unruly demonstrations.

You ask: Did their travel insurance cover this? (told it would)

Can you elaborate on exactly what you mean by 'this'?

    Hi

    Itinerary

Arrive Cairo then travel to Giza then Aswan the Edfu then Luxor then Hurgharda then back to Cairo to Egyptian Museum and the Khan El Khalili markets then Home

Insurance: stated concerns over political situation asked if their insurance covers non travel agent/rep said if Dept of FA says no go you get money back.

I know they had arranged a trip for June so I was wondering if anybody on here had gone on said trip or what their experience of getting refunds was?

    Thanks

I wouldn't be particularly worried about my personal safety going to Egypt but the risk to bear in mind is that there could be mass demonstrations and eventually strikes which could close the airports in which case you could get stranded so I personally wouldn't go if my itinerary involved Cairo as the point of arrival or departure.

As to your position vis a vis insurance, here's your get-out clause.....

DFA: Due to ongoing civil unrest, Irish citizens are advised to avoid non-essential travel to Egypt, with the exception of the Red Sea resorts.

Folks thanks for posting the links to the DFA! Was going to book this holiday this week :(

Travel solo...its the only holiday they have in May for solo travel with no supplement anyway. They are an absolutely fantastic company to holiday with and I am very disappointed with the Egyptian situation.

Anyone any recommendations on other travel companies doing full holiday packages for solo's...(NOT singles hols!) ?
