My First Mountain Bike Lesson for a Beginner

Thought I would post on my .experience in relation to doing my first beginners mountain biking with biking.ie in Ballinastoe Woods, Co Wicklow. I could not fault biking they are well set up,

First thing is finding the place sat nav brought me to wrong place but rang them and got directions to the place. You need to fill out a medical form and you can bring your own bike. To rent is €10 and the cost of the lesson is €50 You can bring your own helmet and also good to wear gloves and shorts not 3/4 length as I did not the best. Also remember to bring water. I am a beginner and my fitness not the best. Bikes pretty decent for mountain bikes and biking set it up for you to get use to.

First part was the basics and teaching about your position on the bike, attack position etc. Then positioning of the bike and how your pedals should be. Maybe basic but for a noobie you need all this. Then your thought about balance and use of breaks, gears etc. The basics around going over rocks and how to lift your front wheel and back wheels.

The total trek around the course is 14k but we did about 7k. It was boiling that day and I did struggle a lot but the instructor had plenty of time for me and gave me a push a lot. Some good trails and its all about looking at where you want to go and not the big rock in front of you, easier said than done and I had a few falls and got off to walk the bike also but that was just me and the fear of falling. The more you do the course the better you will get like anything. The climbs are not to steep but you do need a level of fitness. The scenery is great esp on a good day and you do get to rest in between treks.

Its one to tick of my list and maybe I will try it again when bit more fitter but would recommend it to anyone who wants to try it maybe not on the warmest day of the year as I sweated a lot. If anyone has any questions let me know and I will try to answer them
