Hi I am asking this question for a friend who is not on boards but I would like to help them out.
My friend was on illness benefit for 2 years and then on invalidity pension for 2 years he has been informed by a letter that his pension is ending which is not good news on the brighter side of things he was offered a job last month that might still be available.
The job would last for at least 14 weeks and would pay about €360 gross per week.
    Question 1)
Would this qualify him to get job seekers benefit when the job finishes as he has 4 years of credits (stamps) from his payments from the state and approx 20 years of credits before that.
Question 2) would the job seekers be for 9 or 12 months ?
Question 3) would the payment be means tested ?

Job Seekers' Benefit is paid based on your earnings two years prior to signing on, so the relevant work year for 2013 would be 2011.

He could apply for Job Seekers' Allowance, which is means tested.

Based on the information you have given your friend would qualify for the minimum rate of benefit once they work 13 weeks.
that's €84.50 per week for a single person.
The payment would last for 9 months and not be means tested.

Why the minimum amount ? What type of credits would he have got on Invalitity pension ? I called into a CA centre today while I was in Dublin and left more confused than when I went in ! The lady said he can not got from invalidity pension into employment and then on to job seekers as the credits he got on inv pension will not cover job seekers ( the non means tested one) I don't think my friend is ready for work but he is being put off inv pension anyway I have advised him to get an appointment with a free solicitor in the CA centre. Any advice would be appreciated and I will pass it on. It's seems many parts of the "welfare" system are open to interpretation.

Because the rate of benefit is determined by your average wage or salary in the year 2011 (2 years before the claim) and your friend has none as he was not working.
Why go to a solicitor. Just go make the jobseekers claim.
