Can they refuse to pay?

I just want to check something if I may.

Two weeks ago I worked for a national organisation calling to stores and shops putting up advertising displays etc. We got 2 hours training the week before but I did find the training somewhat confusing. Not saying I'm stupid far from it but basically notes were as clear as mud. The pay per call is very small for the amount of work done as then in the evening I had to submit online reports which took over 3/4 hours to do. So it was a 10 hour day on the road as well as the evening admin work.

There was a lot of driving and travelling and it would be during the heatwave. It seems that some mistakes were made by me - now nothing major but small little errors and now they are saying they won't pay. Are they entitled to do this? I was given the impression at first that it was just me but it seems it may not. There is no written/signed contract either. So are they entitled then not to pay me?
