apt timer - loud whirring sound?

Hi there, Anyone had an Apt 24 timer making a loud whirring sound, like its a sprung clock whirring all the time? Quite loud, in the upstairs landing, to the point of being irritating! Ta in advance for any advice. Best, Paul
