What next?

I completed my first half marathon at weekend after following a 12 week program and am planning for next one: possibly Achill Half on 24th Aug.

I'm fairly new to running so I'd appreciate some advice.

What distances, on what number of days should I be running in order to "maintain" the training so that I am prepared for the 24th?

You have four weeks until the next half marathon so I would just repeat the last four weeks of the twelve week plan you were following, this will include a taper and bring you up to the race.

As a beginner you're probably not running huge miles and the half may well have been the furthest you've run. That being the case you'll need to allow for a bit of recovery time.

Don't do any hard runs this week. Difficult to say exactly what to do without detailed knowledge of your training but for the current week easy running of half the distance you did 4 weeks before the first half probably won't overtax you. Then pick it up fairly sharply for the following 2 weeks before taking an easy week on the week of the half.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for replies. Have gone back to using the Half Program (Hal Higdon) and taken on board what you said about recovery Clearlier - it's not something I had thought about! Thanks again.
