I booked tickets to Edinburgh with aer lingus for a few mates. I put down Nicholas on one but his passport says Nicky. Do you think the staff would say anything or would it be better to ring them and see if they would change it hopefully free. Its €100 otherwise.

Shouldn't be a problem, happens with Jim/James, Andrew/Andy all the time. Just be more careful in future, especially with Ryanair.

I wouldn't ring them because call agents normally play it safe so they might tell you you need to change the ticket but the reality is that with Aer Lingus your friend won't have a problem at the departure gates which is the only place where he will need to show the passport.
