n00b alert! First time posting here!

I've been reading the stickies/charter/etc for the afternoon and some of the advice shared looks great. I'm looking especially at threads to do with climbing hills and good recovery.

I've signed up for the Dingle Half Marathon on 7/9/13. The plan was to make that my third HM (after Limerick in May and Achill a few weeks ago).

I ran Limerick in 2:04:04 and Achill in 1:55:57, so I must be doing something right with my training. Gotta love Cratloe Woods for a good practice route. :)

I've a few friends in Mayo and they're asking me to sign up for the Achill Ultra event on 24/8/13. I'm told Dingle is tough but beautiful, and that this second Achill route is a similar challenge.

By then I'll be 25, hopefully down to 80 kg and I'll have 4 solid weeks of training (2 nights running, 2 nights soccer) behind me.

But would it be madness to try running both with only a fortnight in between? Decent diet, stretching, sleeping and avoiding alcohol are all part of the plan, but what other advice should I take on board?

Not a bit. They're half marathons. you should be recovered after a couple of days. eat well. loads of sleep and lots of water.

Don't drink lots of water unthinkingly - drink according to thirst. Too much water will kill you. Thirst is a good indicator of fluid needs.

The general rule of thumb is that you should not do any hard efforts for one day per every mile raced. In the case of a half-marathon, don't do any hard running for about a fortnight, basically.

In your case, that would just about be okay. If you want to run both of them then give it a go.

Keep in mind that general rules of thumb are just that, and everyone's personal response may differ.

i did my first half at the weekend(killarney), and thought i'd be back running by now. couple of little niggles i picked up during the half have me sitting it out a bit longer, may give it the rest of the week just to be sure.

if doing them i wouldn't plan on much in between just in case

I'll probably be playing a few soccer matches in between. It's good being the goalkeeper sometimes!

Run #1 done. Really feeling the effects of it today! I didn't prepare properly at all.

Finished in 1:59:26. Aiming for 1:50:00 in September. Two weeks of proper preparation await!

    1:59:36 (chip time)

It probably was too soon, but I'm delighted anyway!
