Has anyone accessed the Wicklow way from the Powerscourt lodge? Approx here http://goo.gl/maps/HIBqQ I had considered access from Crone woods further north, but wondered if I could get on here.

The zig zag trail up to the wicklow way is clearly visible, but just wondering is the access from the Powerscourt waterfall entrance road obvious enough.

    Tnx

It's mapped on our Wicklow East 1:30,000 map, you'll have to pay in at the lodge, for general entrance to the waterfall & deerpark etc. I couldn't tell you of the current status of the route as it was field checked c three years ago. Nor do I know if the estate encourage access that way, even if you have paid in. They've certainly fenced or attempted to fence other routes into the valley, for obvious reasons.

Thanks Barry. That's very helpful. I'll more than likely start from Crone woods carpark now and check out the entrance (if it exists) into the Valley / Lodge from that route.

Many thanks for your reply! ;)

As mentioned, it is possible to access the WW from the Lodge end of the estate, It's certainly not a marked or worn trail and not sure that public access is allowed either.

It's easy enough to access the wicklow way from powerscourt waterfall car park - but its a longish 1.5 hour walk to connect with the trail (about 5 euros to park). I most recently did this earlier this year.
    a) You can connect to the way by a long roundabout route that eventually takes you up by the now dried out paddocks pond and then on to Djouce (this is the longest way).
    b) Or head back down the tarmac road and then head up to your left a bit before the entrance lodge and make your way up through the woods until you connect with the winding path that comes up from Crones wood. This is the shortest and most scenic route - I should point out that the stretch from the tarmac road to the crones wood track is along very indistinct trails so be careful.

There are toilets and a shop at the waterfall car park.

Haven't walked it in a while but there is (or used be anyway) a track on the right (true) side of thw waterfall. A little care was required.

The trail on Route B is not much of a trail at all, and is quite overgrown with ferns and very high Gorse bushes, not pleasant at all
