[Wanted] Accomodation in between UCD & DCU

Hi,

Me and one of my friend will arrive Ireland in September. I will be joining DCU and my friend will join UCD.

We are looking for a flat in the area that would be suitable for both of us. Can anyone suggest the area which is in the middle of UCD, Belfield and DCU, Glasnevin?

Traditional student area are Ranelagh and Rathmines on the south side of the city and Drumcondra and Phibsborough on the north side.

As foreign students, living here for the first time, you may be given priority in campus accommodation, but realise it can be inflexible and expensive. They likely won't accept students from other colleges during term time.

UCD and DCU are on opposite sides of the city, so the area which is closer to UCD and DCU both would be the city centre, which would be more expensive (and busier / noisier).

Ranelagh and Rathmines are nearer UCD and Drumcondra and Phibsborough are nearer DCU - that is assuming you are attending the main campuses.

I had a look into the map given by you. How about Smithfield, The Coombe, Wood Quay, Sheriff Street Upper (I saw that these would be in middle of UCD & DCU)? Are these residential areas, or these are just the street names?


Also Can you please let me know the estimate living expense (per head) if we live nearby City Centre?

Much of the city centre has some residential element, however some of them area can be quite rough.

It will obviously depend on your lifestyle, but you should budget about €1,000-1,500 per person per month to cover rent, utilities, food, travel, etc. that doesn't include college expenses or entertainment. You will need to decide whether to get a property with two bedrooms or one twin room (two single beds). At a minimum, you should get your own travel and health insurance.

As well as rent, you will be required to pay a one month deposit, which should be returned when you move out, by many landlords try to cheat. Otherwise, only agree to pay utilities, no other charges. Make sure that you only agree to a lease that is appropriate to how long you will be in Dublin - many landlords ask for 12 month leases, but you can try to assign it to a new tenant, which may be difficult. Most properties in Ireland are partially or fully furnished, but you will need to provide your own kitchen utensils, bed clothes, TV, etc. If getting satellite TV, you are unlikely to be allowed put the dish outside the property without permission.
