    Hi

I'm planning to travel to Thurles on Sunday for the hurling matches
The return train fare is a bit steep so I'm trying to see if there is another way of getting there.

I can see there is no direct bus all the way to Thurles.
I was thinking of getting the bus to Urlingford - anyone know roughly how much a taxi would be from Urlingford to Thurles?

    Thanks

Urlingford to Thurles is 20km so return you are probably talking €25ish; it will be 99% that it's a hackney (They have no meter) and not a taxi that you will end up hiring so the fare will be what you agree to. You may be able to share a cab on the day but don't take it as a given unless you are going with friends. Add on close to 2 hours on the bus from Dublin and it's fare and the 70 minutes on the train makes a bit more sense, not to mention piece of mind.

It will probably be between €20 and €25 each way.

The train if booked online today will be €49.50 return. Guranteed seat
I'd take the train if you can afford it, but I cannot see how any other way would be cheaper.

I got a return fare for €32.99 for Sunday online, is it much dearer now?

It annoyed me having to pay that when you can get from Dublin to Cork for €18/€22 on the bus. Unfortunately Thurles like Mallow is just one of those places where it's near impossible to get to by bus from Dublin.

Don't book that!! €46.50 is the day return fare bought on the day at the station. A ticket bought on the day would offer more flexibility and seems to be cheaper than the restricted online ticket. Can't see any problems getting a seat from Dublin as the Dubs aren't playing.

The online price will default down to the cheaper day fare (If applicable) after you select your trains and go to pay for the trip.

But you lose the flexibility of travelling on any train you want if you book online. You also have to pay a €2 booking fee online, no such fee at the station!

When you book online and pay the regular fare you may travel on another service. Book a discounted fare online and you only may transfer to another train subject to a €10 surcharge. While the online fare currently has a booking fee levied on it you will get a reserved seat from it, something a walk up ticket can't guarantee you.
