Hey guys is it possible to do Lugnaquilla in runners in the current conditions (hopefully not raining)? My friend has no boots or even trail shoes, but I have spares of everything else. I have never been up there before so I don't know if it is deep bog etc. I plan on approaching and returning from the Zig Zags, as this seems the safest way without boots and in general. If the weather appears bad on the day we will go elsewhere.

This is the route I plan on using FYI.

Yes, going up the zig-zags and over Cloghernagh should be relatively straightforward underfoot, at least if you get there before the forecast rain :)

It's getting pretty eroded there recently, especially the lower section of the i.e. from just beyond the fence/stile at the top of the zig-zags to the cliff edge belowr Clohernagh.

I suppose that's true; I was there a couple of months ago in boots, so I don't know for sure how it would have felt in runners

Plenty of IMRA runners in running shoes up there Saturday last, going over Camara Hill. Seemed very safe, bone dry...might be very different now the rains have come.

Cheers guys, looks like it could be damp and I seen a forcast for possible thunder this week. May not be ideal, if there are clear skies in the morning I may chance it, if not I will postpone it.

a mate wore runners doing it in march or april of last year when the ground was pretty damp. we went up by the waterfall and down the zig zags. he struggled a good bit for grip and ended up with thoroughly soaked runners which he dumped in the bin afterwards!

a plus point was that it encouraged him to buy good hiking boots afterwards :)
