If you have ever lived abroad you will have to say so and where, I presume that is for background checks. Iv heard on hear b4 that If you have ever lived abroad the background check takes longer for you, this is because of liaison with authority's where you were.

I'd imagine you'd have to apply to the Australian Federal Police for a national police check cert. It's quite straightforward, and a hell of a lot quicker than the Garda Vetting Office. If you've a conviction, it will show though.

I wonder if you would be better being upfront about it, rather than them finding out without you declaring. If you could tell them about it, and insist that it was a mistake and that you have learned from it, would that look better? I'm not sure on how they view convictions, but I would have thought if you could show them that you've learned from it, it would be better than hiding it.

For the love of god declare it. You can explain it if asked at interview.

Yeah I agree, you won't have been the first person to have made a mistake like that. And for your own sake, why give yourself the worry of not being honest and being caught out?!

Whatever chance you have if you admit the conviction, to deny it and then the Gardaí find out will surely finish you.
At the end of the day it's only a traffic offence not murder

When you went to oz, you applied for a visa. This went through GNIB. When you returned to this country you came through emigration. Remember?

Don't lie when applying to the GS. You will be found out. A Road Traffic conviction is relatively minor, compared to providing false information.

I would presume they won't have to carry out BR checks on atested GR's ?

I wouldn't bet on it. I recently changed appointment in my job and had to do Security checks. To work in another building, as part of my job, which is property of another agency, I had to do it again, and wait 4 weeks before I got the all clear.

The plan has been to move to a more formal system/application form, which will require renewal at intervals. Every 3 years was one figure I heard. Somebody else said 5.

Of course, they way we run things here, we'll all have retired by the time that might happen...

But it makes no sense doing it again ?

What's sense got to do with it? Remember where you live!

I have five valid current Garda vettings. Two more pending. Each time they're checked from day 1, address 1. Couldn't occur to anybody to just check from the last vetted date? That's why the process can take months.

A traffic offence will not exclude you from the process it is only a criminal offence and conviction which will strike you out.

Jesus if traffic offences where taken into account the Phoenix Park and Harcourt Square would be empty
