    Hi,
My sister is going to look at one of these tomorrow evening it's a 00 with 80k miles on the clock.
    What are they like?
Any common faults with them or anything to look out for apart from the obvious?
What sort of mpg is likely?
    Thanks

it's very nippy around town but bad on the motorway. It's reliable. 33mpg 8.7l that's from real people who bought the car and done a review on it.
What else would you recommend her?

They are very reliable cars and give little to no problems. However from my experience of them I have found them to be very harsh and uncomfortable to drive and as a passenger. They also can rust quiet badly underneath as is the case with most mazdas.

well if that's what she really wants then go buy it just check if it's mechanically sound and if there is a little rust you could always do it over just make sure it's not rotten and the engine sounds good. Give it a few revs to make sure there are no knocking sounds.

I have an 03 1.3 Demio for about 9-10 months. I needed to get the battery replaced last winter. Otherwise it had no faults. It is a little shaky on the motorway and that doesn't seem to be down to a wheel imbalance. It doesn't have great acceleration above about 60kmph. It is very fuel efficient, though I can't give you figures. Some people, possibly veterans of the original Gran Turismo, feel a pathological need to overtake or drive up your bum, regardless of speed and danger involved. It's easy to drive. Design means there is plenty of space inside, while still being small enough to manoeuvre easily. I really like it and think it's a very good choice compared to other cars of its size and price range.

there are better options out there as well. Something like a mazda 323 or a Toyota corolla would be far superior to a demio.

A lot of older Deimos in the last while were bought by people with a few kids who weren't particularly good drivers or into maintaining a car.

No I don't think so there was a fords 1.4 tdci diesel in the later 02 models though but you are looking for a 2000 model aren't you

The Mazda Demio is actually the old model Ford Fiesta with the Demio body bolted on. I persuaded my late father to buy one new, a '99. It was easy for him to get in and out of, but that was its only saving grace. It never broke down in fairness but it never felt stable at any kind of speed and never felt safe on motorways. A family member took it over from him and it didn't last jig time once the mileage climbed and kids got at it/in it.

It's not. The demio has a completely different chassis to a fiesta and different engines. It's the Mazda 121 and the later Mazda 2 that had connections to the fiesta.

She was looking at earlier ones, theyre cheap but a fresher diesel one might be the way to go, they'd probably run on the smell of it.
