Muppet Heads from Done Deal

Anyone else experienced complete muppets on done deal?,
One guy took the biscuit with me today, out of the blue received a text to say that a guy had picked up a cheaper car 6mts ago that he reckoned was a better deal. I'm not sure what I was meant to do with such information from a complete stranger.
Anyone else come across nonsense from complete strangers?

Unfortunately its the joys of buying or selling stuff, you always encounter muppets with more time than sense.

This is one reason I specifically say "no texts please" in my adverts. Yes you get idiots on the phone too but there tends to be more of them willing to waist your time with endless stupid texts in my experience.

It was the most pointless text ever, he wasn't asking anything, just stating that he got a better deal 6mts ago.
I'll stick his number on a nigerian banking forum, that should sort him out.

He disclosed it, didn't even bother to make it private. Will probably pay the price in the next 24hrs.

Reply back to that would be "ehh, not for that you won't!" :p

But yea, that sort of shite is why I would probably not bother with private selling - that and I wouldn't have the time to be dealing with all the calls and texts during the day. Plus there's the stories we've seen here of chancers coming back a week later claiming there was something wrong with the car etc.

It's the same on Adverts though - you put up a decent description, state your terms and asking price as well as a note that ridiculous low-ball offers will not be entertained.. and the first post will inevitably be asking something that is in the description, or asking you what your "best price" is/giving you an insulting offer.

If you send a text message the number is displayed. You cannot send a message from a private number. When you get a mobile telephone yourself you'll see how it works here in the 21st century.

If you had the free time, accept , set up an elaborate meeting , bank draft the lot, then either don't show and eventually text to say you sold car for more , or turn up in a borrowed banger , just to see reaction

I'd say the guy is just lonely. Probably looking for a chat.

had one worse than that, except on the street.

had my 106gti up for sale around 5 years ago, at the time it was the cheapest running 106gti in Ireland or England at €800euro.
Had a 'for sale' sign up on the back window and some random nobhead stops beside me and says "What's that yoke, a little 106? I'll give ya €500 for it"
I told him it was the cheapest in the British Isles at €800 and he can feck on with his €500, I wasn't taking offers.
Well that didn't suit him, went on a tirade for about ten minutes about the racing he's done and how "I have x cars at home and I know everything about cars" etc etc I mean this guy was genuinely one of the biggest muppets I've ever encountered.

Eventually it took me telling him to fúck off and driving away.
Just goes to show ya, they're not afraid to do it in person either!

Not looking forward to selling my car now solely because of muppets like this.

I had my car up for sale on DD i got a call from a woman interested in buying it she told me she told me she would ring me back after she had a chat with her husband to see if the price was ok with him i told her i had some else ringing me back aswell and they had first preference as they called first, so the first caller called back and said he would take the car then an hour later the woman called back and said she wasnt going to take it i told her i sold it and she wanted to know how much i sold it for and why did i sell it before i heard back from her??????? I dont see how it mattered to her how much i sold it for, the joys of selling private. :D

First preference would require a deposit in my book.

Yeah maybe that would be a good idea i did tell him i would wait a bit for him to ring but to be honest i wasnt holding out for a quick sale so if he didnt want it some one else would i wasnt in a hurry to sell.

Actually you can with certain webtext services...

The trick is not to get irritated by it, if you do they they have won and got the reaction they wanted. Sure car dealers make stupid offers on cars all the time, it's a game.
