Just plastered two verticals of an external reveal tonight using stepped skirting boards:o
How long should I leave it before I remove them? Two days?

The longer the better. If the mix was good and there are no voids behind the battens, tap them on the side with a hammer. This should let you know if they'll come away without breaking an edge. When the weather is hot and dry, I would spray a little water the day before taking them down. The heat can dry out the mix before the chemical reaction takes place and this can cause the edges to crumble.
