Anything from 70 to 80 upwards an acre for barley straw.Heard of people looking for 100 plus but ??.

As regards yields, baled 13 acres heavy winter barley straw crop today(4.1 tonne crop;not my own!!) and it had 148 good solid 4x4 bales.

General run on spring is 6 to 10 4x4s.
Depending on lenght etc. suppose around 12 to 15 small squares in a 4x4.

Know the general run of what people are looking for around here is 12 to 15 euro for 4x4 barley straw in the field.

If you can at all buy it by the bale rather than by the acre. It's fairer to everyone. Most in our area now agree to do it this way, however straw prices are going to be serious this year so some may want to go back to the per acre when selling.

I have heard the same prices for 4x4 straw so far, expensive if you've a lot of haulage on top of that.

Years ago we were told that straw from winter grain was useless for both bedding and feeding

winter barley straw baled in the last few days is the best quality i have ever seen it must be a month since a drop of rain landed on it, most normal years its half spoiled before its even cut never mind 2 or 3 weeks rain on the ledge.
If i was buying straw id buy now and not take my chances waiting for spring straw, never know what the weather could throw at us yet.

If your buying straw that was cut by some of the newer combines make sure the straw was ripe before it was cut as its hard to spread and gather the straw they leave after them
