Anyone got any opinions on whether the £200 difference for the newer model is worth it? Have had a look at the reviews and its a toss up for me whether it is...buying one or the other in the 48 hours and swaying between one and the other continuously!

I've been asking myself the same question.

The way I see it is it's basically the same camera with some ok-ish new features. Whether or not they are worth €200+ more though is debatable:

    - tilting screen (not a touchscreen unfortunately which would have been very useful for focus/video)
    - wifi (useful but limited according to reviews)
-a hotshoe mount (good if you plan on future expansion - buying optional mics (Sony proprietary only), filter holders etc.).

The backside illuminated sensor doesnt make that much difference according to most reports I've seen although it might help a bit on the tele end where the lens is a bit slow.

The Rx100ii is more expensive from Sony.ie than anywhere else in Europe by the way - €819!!! Crazy.

Wex photographic are throwing in the official cases with each model which makes it a slightly better deal.

Thanks for all the info, helped a lot in making the decision...

I went for the RX100 in the end, I can't really see myself buying all the high end add ons, i guess the tilt-able screen may be useful sometimes without being vital.

I did some reading on dpreview and their seemed to be a few complaints about various aspects of RX100ii and not really all that much to be raving about with the new additions and most of all photo quality seemed to be much the same, any improvements were said to be too small to be made out by the naked eye.

I went and ordered on digitalrev.com which I found to be the cheapest by far, however, forget it if you are intending to get it delivered to the republic, same situation as your sony.ie, I cant understand why the duty is so high here when it's only supposed to be a 3% difference to the UK. Digitalrev dont deliver to parcel motel as I already tried and the order got cancelled a few days later when the destination address was discovered to be a PO Box, of sorts. I've had it delivered to a pal who can "gift" it to me.

attached is a breakdown of the invoice, there were some free gifts and discounts and stuff, but the main additions were the custom case, mini tripod, memory card, extra battery and the mini HDMI cable, came to £429.43 in total

Let me know what you decide to go for in the end, would be interested to know!

Good deal and a good decision too! The RX100II seems way overpriced for upgrades that will have a minimal impact on actual picture quality - DXOMARK

Judging by Digital Rev's videos, they really know their stuff and seem like a good place to buy from... After all of my pontificating I'm actually leaning away from both RX100 cameras now and more towards a compact system camera. I've been around a few camera shops testing things out and don't actually think that portability (the whole point of the RX100) is as important to me as I first thought. Something in between a DSLR and a compact camera is more suited to me. As much as I can appreciate how great the images and the videos are from the RX100, I like the idea of having some scope to try out different lenses.

I'm looking at the Panasonic DMC-G6 and Sony NEX 6 but might wait for a month or so to see if the price comes down a bit. There are other models expected to be released that might be worth a look as well so I'm not in a rush just yet.

    Enjoy your new camera!
