Hi. I am trying to decide which is the better option: to buy a satellite dish or to go with cable tv. Not sure if I will get all the channels on the dish? Anyone got any advice?

with money been tight now a sat dish pointed to 28.2 the same as sky use combined with an aerial for saorview will give freesat and the irish channels for free, you will not get sky movies/sports or a few others as they are encrypted,it depends on what you want ,also to add to above an internet connection nearby is needed also.

What channels are you interested in receiving? The Irish and UK terrestrial channels such as RTÉ/BBC/CH 4 etc. or are you interested in subscription channels such as Sky, Living etc. or premium movie and sports channels.

Mainly the ones you mentioned but I did hear that it's not possible to get UTV - am i wrong about that? And I presume you have to get a separate device for recording programmes?

So you want the RTÉs, BBC's, Sky channels, sport and movies etc.?

UTV is available with a UPC cable sub, in its programme guide, but not with a Sky sub although it can be tuned in on the "other channels" section of a Sky box but won't be available in the Sky programme guide and requires a few button presses to get to it, a Sky+ box may not be able to record the channel.

Both providers can supply you a receiver with a built-in recorder, Sky+ or UPC Digital+
