Spanner warning symbol on 2013 Ford Fiesta?

The symbol below with the associated message comes on from time to time in my 2013 Fiesta (1.6 Powershift). Only appears on startup, never comes on (yet anyway) when running.

Park for a while, restart and its gone off. Will not appear then for a few weeks. Brought it into the local Ford dealer, they couldn't find any faults logged. They did a software upgrade though. It's re-appeared a couple of times since the upgrade was done a couple of months ago. The owners manual (page 59) lists it as a powertrain warning lamp despite message shown.

A faulty sensor or an actual engine problem?

Afaik thats your service light which means your car is due a service,

you can reset it yourself by pressing the brake and accelerator together for about 10_15 seconds it should switch it off, although your car needs to be servicesd

Bought in early February, now around 4200 km on the clock. First came on in March when around 1000 km done. Should it come on so soon?

    Its not a service reminder.

My apologizes i thought your car was 2012 {speed reading} no it shouldnt be on IF its your service light, did you try to reset it by pressing the brake and accel together, if it doesnt work id be bringing it back to the garage

Didnt get a chance to try that. Its gone off now. Comes on during start up. Never comes on or goes off when engine running or when driving. Turn off engine, leave for a few minutes, restart and its gone off.

Its irregular in occurence. Went about 5 weeks without an incident, now it's happened twice in about 2 weeks.

The car is still under Ford warranty so bring it back to the dealer to be checked.

    Not good enough though!

Car is brand new, it should not have engine lights showing up. If I were the OP, I would start logging all calls / emails to the Ford dealer and start issuing timelines / ultimatums with the view that if the issue is not sorted within a reasonable period of time, I'd want a new car or a full refund. No judge in this country is going to find in favour of the dealer should it go to court :)

If theres no faults showing and it doesnt hapoen when the garage have it though how are they to know the op isnt some headcase making stuff up? Anyone that works in retail will attest to this kind of customer existing.

Ah the joys of intermittant problems.

I presume the OP brought it to the garage while the light was on :)

That's a bargain Xantia you have in your sig, Stephen. They were all hydropneumatic, weren't they? Sorry for off topic :o

Back in 04 i had a new seat ibiza and same thing was happening with mine but when light would come on i'd get slight hesitation then light would go off,had it in with seat 4 times coming back saying they couldn't find a fault and they changed this and that only to go away on holiday for 2 weeks to come back to car not starting.Turned out to be water in the petrol and had damaged the fuel pump, well that's what they said anyway and tried to say it wasn't covered under warranty as was contaminated fuel.

Yip. First time it happened. Parked it in the forecourt. Guy came out to check, and whaddyaknow, no warning symbol. They did a diagnostic, couldn't find anything, but did software upgrade at that time. As already said, the joys of intermittant faults!

Just wondering though, should a fault be stored (if genuine or not) for later examination whenever the warning indicators come on?

If you google it you'll see many other instances of this happening where it just comes and goes

Good point, I suppose OP could take a video of it next time it happens to show it is happening?

Thanks, Colm. Yes googled it alright. Quite a few have experienced this it seems. Checked oil level. Thats ok. Engine temp normal.

Faulty sensor the most likely cause of it?

Someone else posted it a couple of weeks back. Would you believe ive had two people contact me about it since its up. one person by text and then not follow up. Thw other rang and asked about the engine , he was looking to break to to fix his own. I highly doubt he had one in better condition to warrant breaking it tbh. He didnt call back in any case.Other than that no interest.its on dd and adverts.

I can only assume its because its french and a large amount of people automatically reject the idea.

Its actually been great o have and use the way I have over the last 5 and a half years. Every time I got a commercial (3 times) or another car (twice) then went back to the xantia after a few months id nearly have fogotten how comfortable it was to drive. Floating over bumps. Most recently it was for the nct. Had a great run down to naas in it.

Im debating whether to keep the citroen car club sticker and put it on the volvo :-)

Probably not. Stephen, trust me (and Ronnie Beck). Spend your €3 and put it on donedeal. It will sell. Probably the cheapest hydropneumatic car with a long NCT in the country :)
