    Hi c2010

Sound like a good event and a great cause, If you have a FB account post it up on Irish Cycling Sportives FB page, they have about 5000 followers and are asking people to post their events on their site at the moment.

    Hey c2010

The poster says 100km route but website and mapmyride says 120km

In any event I am hoping to sign up, looks like a good preparation for the Tour of Waterford.

    Hi C2010,

Looks good, but the descent off the Sally gap via Lugala is currently rather dangerous due to road conditions, see this thread. Could be worth giving the council a shout to see if it will be improved before the event or considering a re-route if not.

+1 to this. I wont be doing it if it goes that route. Its a death trap.

As this starts near enough outside my house I will have to mark this into the calender

Wicklow County Council have told us that the surface chippings at Luggala will be swept before the 3rd Aug. They will update us this week on all roads on both routes. We will change the routes if there is a safety issue.
    I appreciate the comments.

    Couple of questions before saturday:

Were abouts is the Bog Meadow Community Centre in Enniskerry? Is it at the bottom of the Monastery road hill on the right (coming from Dublin) before you get to the square?
Is there any parking available at that location?
Are there any food/water stops on the route?
Will there be sign posts along the route, I know most of the route but wont be that familiar with the Blessington area?

    Cheers

Yes, that's where it is. You can't miss it, there are several football pitches and a tennis court beside it.

Parking is very limited unless they allow access to the football pitches in the Bog Meadow. Otherwise there is a handful of spaces in the Bog Meadow itself and around the village.

There is no mention of food/water stops on the beactive website so I'd assume none and bring your own provisions. Likewise, no mention of marshalling, signposting, mechanical back-up etc etc.

Yes I know the place well, never knew it was called Bog Meadow

Agree on the no mention of food water stops marshalling etc, doesnt sound like it is going to be well organised as the website doesnt say anything about it or even give specific directions to the start area.

Think I'll do this in prep for SKT. Anyone know if it's a group start. Can't open the route for some reason. Is it a tough 120k?

Should be good prep for the SKT, this is the first year the event is being held, but some medium climbing and distance of 110k should mean good prep for the SKT.

    Try this route which is the revised one following changes due to bad roads in the area;

Yes, water & food stops along the route as follows:

110km Route: Food stop at 85km at the Brookagh Centre in Laragh.

50km Route: Food stop at 37km at Luggala Car Park

There will also be food and refreshments at the finish :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,116 ✭✭✭bazermc

A food stop at 85k on a 110k cycle is a bit late IMHO

I would prefer to bring enough food and push through rather than stopping and than completing the remaining 25K

    Hi Johnny,

We will have extra parking available on the football pitches on the day. We also have plans for parking in the adjoining fields if we need it.

We have a large team of volunteers who will be making sure everyone is well fed and watered on the day. :)
Food stops on each route and also food and refreshments at the finish.

Mechanical backup will be provided and a contact number will be given to each participant along with a route map on the day. The course will be well sign posted too.

Hope you can join us on the day as it's all for a good cause www.braycancersupport.ie
100% of the €25 entry fee is going to the Centre who provide cancer support services to people in Wicklow & Dublin.

Just to clarify the €1.40 is ActiveGlobal.com online booking fee which goes to them.
The €25 goes to the charity.

So, if you register on the morning you just have to pay €25 to charity and activeglobal.com get nothing!!!!!!

Yes that's right, nothing goes to ActiveGlobal.com if you register on the day!
But pre-registration helps us plan for numbers!

Just in the door from this. Nice day out and a well organised event. Not a massive turnout, but I think it was their first year so might have suited them! Cycled with others about as far as Glencullen then pretty much spent the rest of the cycle on my own. Food stops well placed, despite the Laragh one being up a hill from the road! :pac:

Strangely I was the first back. This doesn't make sense as I'm no faster than previous years and normally further back in the field. I know these things aren't races, but it just goes to show how much the average pace can vary from one event to the next! My normal strategy is to start the day fast then have groups passing me later on to tow me home! :) This strategy backfired on me today! That said, I didn't stay long at the stops as they tend not to cater for coeliacs at any event (so I eat my own food as I go) plus SWMBO is more likely to tolerate more cycles if I get back early!

Just over 5 hours door to door.

great spin, nice bunch. I went back over Sally Gap a second time on the way back because i was having a good buzz! It was really cool to think the 25e goes to Bray Cancer Centre.
    Will get a feed now

Great day out, plenty of food at the stops and a friendly crowd. Took it steady with a pal who did his first sportive today, (well done bb). It was fairly windy but managed to miss the rain. The side winds on the 2 gaps were interesting to say the least
Well Marshalled and signed on the roads, pity for the organizers it clashed with tour de Kilkenny.
10/10 for the effort the folks put into running this.

Did this today. Great event, great route. Well signposted and marshaled, although I did miss the food stop but the food at the end made up for that. Well done to all involved and a great cause. Looking forward to next years.

Good day indeed, I don't get out on the bike too often and it's mainly solo, so was nice to be out on an organised spin.
Climbing wasn't too bad, but I chickened out on some of the descents with those cross winds and had a few speed wobbles.
Longest distance and time I've been on the bike to date, so happy I finished in reasonable shape.
Well done to the BCC crew for an enjoyable outing.
