buying glasses online

I bought my current glasses at Specsavers and they cost me about €600,
(2 pairs, both varifocals, thin lens,anti-scratch, one clear, one transitions) that was 2011,

Now I need an eye test and probably a new prescription but I would like to try the online Opticians; do I just walk into SS and ask for an eye examination? will they allow me to just take the prescription and walk? or should I buy a basic pair of glasses and ask politely for a copy?

You are entitled to a copy of your prescription but you will also need your PD which probably won't be on it - they might charge you extra for it. Plenty of half price vouchers in newspapers/flyers at the moment for eye tests at Specsavers, running until the end of July.

Curious about above as was checking out an online site this morning. what's a PD? If you get glasses online is it easy to tweak the nose or earpiece plastic to fit?

PD stands for pupil distance. Average for adult males is 64mm and adult females is 62mm. But I'd recommend you go get it measured by a dispensing optician or optometrist.

Some frames can be easy to adjust but again, I think you would be best to have an experienced set of hands do it as it's also easy to break frames when you've never adjusted them before.
