Disaster Rounds

I'm only new to the game and yet to break 100 on my local course but had a disaster even for me this week.

First card for my GUI handicap and scored 60 on the first 9 holes due to pressure of playing in company of seasoned golfers. I lost 4 balls in the process.

Anyway it made me think a thread on disaster rounds would be interesting.

Any horrible competition blunders or the like people want to share?

This is going to drag up a lot of painful memories, playing the second round of the club championship i knew the Gross was out of reach but i knew 4 bogies would give me a great chance of the nett. Went Double, double, triple, double to loose it by 1 i had a great first round and was well ahead in the nett. I'm usually good at finishing a good round out but if i have a poor start then i can rarley recover. On the first in the Captains prize when i was defending champion i had a 10 3 OB off the tee defence over fairlt quickly.

Good thread, my first ever counting comp off 20 a couple of years ago I had 5pts! Absolute disaster, didn't help that the two lads I was playing with were a**holes!

Recently had an absolute nightmare of around :( had 70 strokes to the 10 hole playing with 2 numpties in a club competition duly decide enough was enough in the 30 degree heat so exited on the 11th hole. Played a causal round 3 days later and had 34pts. Playing off 24 so i guess there will be days like that. You just need to savoir the good days and forget about the bad ones !!!

Hooked the ball(left hander) onto the path on that hole before. Had to play out of the cabbage and hit it about 3 yards over the path into more crap. Nearly brke my neck trying to get down to the ball and then hit a desperation PW to about 4 feet, 2putted from there.

How did you manage the extra 10 shots

My really disastrous rounds in Moate are from 2002 just after I initially joined the club. In April '02 I had 117 strokes for 17pts off 18 and followed that up in May '02 with 116 strokes for 14pts.

Just got my handicap at the start of the year and in my first 3 comps I kept within the buffer (delighted), 4th week out and it was a stroke comp, only realised when I arrived and it through me a bit, I was used to just picking up if I had a disaster hole. Second hole I scored a 9, 4th hole I scored a 9, 8th hole I scored a 9, shot a 103 off 15hcp.

Tee shot into back bunker, then good bunker shot 2 ft from pin that just kept going into right bunker,Hit lip twice, then caught too clean and went down steep slope other side (5) shocking lie in cabbage so 1 hack out and then flop onto green which once again found my bunker, again caught ball too clean back down slope, another decent flop that landed on green and then rolled in to bunker, laughing at this stage and again caught lip, then over green again (11)chip to top of slope which rolled back to my feet, chip onto green and two putts. All in all a good 15 ;0)
God i love that hole ,Genuinely - brilliant par 3 :)
ps.in my defence the green was so hard and fast it wouldnt have been out of place at Muirfield this weekend!!

Too frequent for them to be memorable, but one does stick out.

I had gotten back into golf - playing maybe a couple of times a month on average. I was back at it about a year and had not reached 36 points in a round at this stage (playing off 16). After 14 holes I had 35 points.

On the 15th I actually didn't play it too badly - par 3, my iron was a little left and ended up in the bunker. Tough shot out, just rolled off the green. Decent chip back with a tough uphill lie to about 4 feet. Lipped out for the putt, double bogey 5 for 0 points.

16th hole - par 5, I hit a big drive down the middle of the fairway. Then a perfect second just in front of the lake - position A to be playing your 3rd from. I caught two sandwedges fat and hit them into the lake - finished with a 9, no points.

17th hole - par 4, pulled the drive into the trees on the left. I saw a gap in the trees, then hit the trees and stayed in there. Took another two to get out. Ended with an 8 - 0 points.

18th hole - par 5. I was actually hoping for a point at this stage, just hoping to at least reach 36. Drive into the trees on the left. Whatever happened after that, I finished with an 8 - 0 points.

35 points overall, if anyone saw the card they'd swear I was pulling up! From the 2nd to the 14th though, it was the best golf I'd played in my life!
