right so going to the crescent and getting of the bus

surely people getting on should wait till everyone gets off so they can get on and pay , like a heard of cattle cannot wait to get on

several times I had to say excuse just to get off the bus

surely this is common sense I always wait till everyone of the bus before I get on

    its very annoying

I've been on a few buses where the driver has lost the plot at these people, funny to watch. :D

The world is a cruel place.

I presume you're from Limerick ? There are no manners in Limerick last time I checked.

Move faster and be more assertive when getting off the bus. I don't get many obstructions, but I don't stop for them. Keep moving, even if you have to shove someone out of your way to do it.

More sensible companies allow people to exit through the back door!

Don't try to enter through the back door though. They go mental!

The bus I used - the driver would've told people doing that to get to the back of the line.

    Off

Same problem on the Luas ridiculous you can't get on if I'm trying to get off!

Get off the bus promptly ta f**k. Dunno how many times I've let everyone off the bus and then I go to get on only to have half a dozen dawbrains decide to rush the exit.

It depends where. A lot of places have all doors open much like the Luas.

This annoies me to no end too! People get off the bus first then new customers get on after. it takes like 2-3 seconds!

I find the same thing when I am getting out of a lift in work, the amount of people who barg into the lift before people get out is terrible.

    Manners cost nothing.

    Simple solution.

Front door is for getting on only. Back/side doors for getting off only.

Beware of anyone who breaks social conventions like trying to get on to the bus without letting people off. They're most likely a psychopath who can't fathom social norms.

    Be afraid...

I stand in the doorway until these evildoers make a path for people to disembark. Being the size of the doorway helps this cause.

Unfortunately, CIE ordered a lot of buses specially made with only one door!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I chalk this up to the 'Dog Eat Dog' aspect of life. I know that might seem over the top at first, but it's true :)

Think about it, it's the whole "I am getting on the bus before you! I'm gonna get a seat before you!" - in reality, can be enough seats for everyone. It's not about getting in the way of others getting off - it's about getting in the way (or ahead) of others getting on. Close to the doors as possible so you'll get a seat

Says alot when you step back and look doesn't it? ;) I mean people like to think the world is becoming a better place. Equality for homosexual people etc etc :P But when you look at people getting on a bus? Kinda shows what people are really about.

It's not just on the buses though. Someone up above referenced Luas. It happens on trains as well.

In other european cities there are entrance and exit doors on trams as well. Makes a lot of sense!

It's basic manners though, something which unfortunately some people seem to lack.

If they opened the middle doors on buses in Ireland ( I haven't been on one for a few years in Dublin but they never used to when I did) I've no doubt a load of people would pile through them without paying while the dirver was taking fares at the front door.

They don't have middle doors any more, they've made room for wheelchairs and buggies instead.

I remember years ago they tried to introduce this thought, it just never worked, and the driver used to get so upset :pac:

Ignorant fuckers do it on the DART as well.

    Dear Ignorant Fuckers,

If you try to push on to the DART while I am getting off, you WILL be hoofed back onto the platform.

    Yours etc.

Some (a lot?) of Dublin Bus' new fleet has the middle door back. Exited through one a few mins ago. Dead handy, especially at the last city centre stop where there's a huge passenger offload

Many people realise that if they do not get on the bus ahead of others they will have no seat, pure torture when on a long journey and one of the disadvantages of long rush hour commutes.

Yet the standees pay the same fare as the sitters, not fair.

This may not be an issue on a 10-15 minute trip, what city busses were originally designed to do but can be very onerous on the typical 1 hour trips now common on our traffic choked roads from places like Celbridge, Maynooth or Lucan.

I dont even want to think about the conditions on commuter rail like Dundalk/Drogheda to Dublin.

That was one of the reasons why they were phased out from 2000. Another part of it, would have been due to people leaving buggys/luggage/bags/ and even standing around in there. Made it unsafe to use the middle doors. There were notices all over that area telling'em not to do it, yet they persisted. So the next set of buses came without middle doors.

Someone mentioned above that the new buses have middle doors, they've also a spot for wheelchair/buggy.

Some of the new dublin buses try the exit through the middle doors lark, it just does'nt work and the drivers don't bother with it half the time.

The middle doors thing makes much more sense. On amsterdam trams say, they have exit barriers that only go one way, making it more difficult for people to bunk on. Simple solution.

I haven't been on a bus in ages and would rarely be on a train/luas at rush hour.

The train is as bad....you can't get on or off because people refuse point blank to move more than one centimetre from the door.

I mean really a little patience wouldn't go a miss, the thing won't leave without you and if it does there's generally another within the next few minutes.

    So please calm down!

On the Luas I was once literally pushed backwards off it by some twat with a buggy who was too much of a rush to have manners. I was livid that he dared to lay his hands on me like that

And if you are late/in rush for wherever you are going....well that's your own fault not mine so wait your turn and have some manners and decency.

When getting off a bus I like to be first at the doors when it stops. Then when people try to rush on, a well practiced stage dive from me onto the crowd usually moves them back. Yes I have to endure a face full of pavement on occasions but worth it.

Note : Little old ladies are stronger than they make out to be.

The exit barrier thing sounds like a great idea, I have never seen that in use before. would make great sense. Exit only through middle doors and entry only through front. It probably wouldn't work on the buses though, as the same gobsh1tes trying to get on while you're trying to get off, will probably try to barge through the line of people coming down the stairs from the top deck to get a seat downstairs at the back.

I was on a bus last week and there was a digital display telling people that they must exit using the center doors ONLY. I go to get off the bus and of course the center doors are closed
