Hi lads I'm trying to decide between purchasing between these two car from a local dealer both have similar millage and similar price but I'm just looking for your views on which would be the better car to buy?? cause I like both. Would there be much in the difference between the fuel efficiency of the cars?? Any info and advice on which is the better car to buy

The Avensi are a littli hit and miss on reliability believe it or not. Though i got 40mpg on one I drove for a while and they are a bit more spacious. Mazda rule the roost for reliability though and I think youd easy get the same fuel efficiency from it if not more. Youd have decent overtaking ability with it too. Im thinking Mazda myself:)

    +1

Had a Mazda 6 1.8. Cracking car. Timing chain engine is very solid. Better looking, way better to drive. Not as spacious, but little in it. Negatives? Launched in 2002, so a bit dated, but get a higher spec and you will love it.

What's hit and miss about a 1.6 avensis reliability wise?

Can only speak for the 05 model Mazda (basically the same though), fuel efficiency is a bit Meh, I get 30mpg consistently. However reliability wise its rock solid with one small exception, both front and back calipers have a habit of sticking which in turn makes them a bit heavy on brake pads.

Theyre a good car but Ive changed a lot of accelerator potentiometers, Airflow meters, Two chains, another car in a garage in the past had its chain cut through its cover. And Ive heard of central locking gremlins. But thats just a very small few. The vast majority are near trouble free really so my experiences were probably influenced by owner maintenance. Toyota are a brilliant car but I think Mazda just about edges ahead on this one.

Personally I'd hold out for a 1.8 Avensis.
