    Hey folks,
So the car's got what I think is a hole in the exhaust system somewhere.

I don't have the funds to get it repaired yet, and I'm just wondering if I can be doing any damage to the car by driving it while the exhaust isn't working properly.

    Cheers,

Depending on the size/location of the hole your back pressure could be reduced, which will affect performance, economy and emissions.

    Nope.

It may fall off it its's cracked at a turning point and may only be held on my jubilee clips however.

My old car had a big rusted hole on the middle pipe, sounded unreal :p

If it's near the manifold there's a chance the car could go on fire.

Depending on where it is it could do something.
Also you may have a run in with the guards if it's considerably loud?

You can also asphyxiate in a petrol. Any fumes from an engine are bad not matter what the fuel.

If theres a hole on the pipe section not the backbox then it easily fall off. Mine fell off at around 75mph when I was very busy with work and driving back and forth had no time to fix it. There was an unholy bang as the exhaust caught the road and got flung backwards under the car. All this in the pitch dark with me staring at sparks in the rear view mirror.

You can get an exhaust repair bandage, wraps around the part where the hole. Might not suit, depending on where the hole is, but it might do for a short until it falls off time. Might give you the chance to get cash together to get it replaced. It is a DIY job as well.

Or some Milk-tray chocolate, which is marginally more useful as you can eat the un-used chocolate. Eating the exhaust bandage is not as nice. Find a nice person who can weld and get them to pop a tack in its rasp. I spend half my free-time welding peoples exhausts as does my son - if you know how, keep it quiet:D
