Strange phone call - Scam attempt?

I got a call this morning from woman with an Irish accent (sounded like she was maybe in her 40s).

When I 1st answered I thought there was a problem with the line because she kept saying my 1st name over and over and I kept responding 'hello' and waiting for her to state her business. Here's how the conversation went.

    Me: Hello
    Her: (calls my name)
    Me: Hello
    Her: (calls my name)
    Me: Hello
    Her: (calls my name)
    Me: Hello
    Her: (calls my name)
    Me: Yes this is x
Her: Where are you, x? (I thought that maybe she was asking because the line was bad at her end)
    Me: I'm at home
Her: No you're not, you're lying! (In an annoyed, accusing voice)
Me: Who is this? Are you sure you have the right number? What's the 2nd name of the person you're looking for?
Her: Maybe you're right, maybe I've the wrong number
    CLICK - end of call

I'd think no more of it if she hadn't known my christian name, but she did, and my number isn't listed anywhere. Her number shows up as a regular looking 087xxxxxxx number, but when I call it back it says 'number not in use'.

    I'm perplexed, any ideas?

You're going to die in 7 days, also pictures of you will be inexplicably blurry.

Congratulations you've had a conversation with someone who's clearly hard of hearing.

Also looking at the information she asked from you, what possible scam could they pull?

A warning from the future, or ghosts. Or both? Probably. Best pitch it to the paranormal forum.

Don't ring back again. There were scams around where you got a call, the person hung up & when you rang back you were actually calling a premium rated number.
It could also just be a friend havin a laugh at your expense

I dunno...wrong number same name is a bit too much of a coincidence, I get about 1 wrong number a year like. Also the magical 'not in use' number she called me from is too strange.

Something like that would make sense, though the number she called from is just a regular 087xxxxxxx one, or at least on the surface it seems to be, but when I call it back it just says 'number not in use'.

I do remember people saying the scam looked like a 086 number but it wasn't.
Don't ring, but send a webtext or 2 to the number, if its a genuine mistake the person will tell you, if not, leave it well alone

I hope it's not a premium rate line with a recording saying "Number not in use" or is your phone not even connecting a call?

She didn't, just my Christian name. But like I say, I'm unlisted and I get about one wrong number a year so it's very strange. The flow of the call was very much her waiting for me to speak too, like she was fishing for information maybe.
I'd be willing to put it down to coincidence if she didn't call from a number that seemingly doesn't exist!

Not connecting at all. Just flashing up a message on my screen saying 'number not in use'.

She thinks you're having an affair with her husband and was calling up to suss you out.

Standard procedure for putting a hex on someone. Well known fact that if someone calls your name out over a phone 4 times in a row without you saying "Snap back, no hexsies", then your hexed.

Wouldn't worry too much about it OP just don't use any power tools for the rest of the month and stay away from farm animals.

Ah ok, if she knew your fullname it would be very strange. But how to explain the number not in use part, thats a bit wierd.

Reminds me of the time I had a strange call from a woman telling me to come upstairs becasue she was waiting for me. I was in my friends house at the time and his parents had recently arrived home after a few drinks. Turns out it was my mates Mam looking for her husband who's name is similar to mine. It was actually my mate who copped who it was because he had given his Mam my number that week to get a hold of him. He was mortified, I felt I should go upstairs and oblige the poor woman, she clearly wanted someone up there quick.

Forgot to mention that when after she accused me of lying about my whereabouts, I asked her who this is, she replied with 'you know who this is!' in an angry tone. If it were a wrong number she'd have known instantly from my voice that I wasn't this person that she is seemingly so familiar with.

    Weirdness.

Thats Old Operator Mary. Some say she killed herself after her husband had an affair. Now she haunts the phone lines looking for the unfaithful, to kill them!

Anything you want to admit OP?
