Door closer fire regulations for a flat

Hi all,

I'm in the process of purchasing a purpose built flat in Dublin city. I've just received the survey report and one of the things they guy made clear was that I should install door closers as it is a fire regulation requirement.

Does anyone know what the exact regulations are he is on about? Google didn't really turn up anything relevant.

Also aren't door closers a bit pointless? All the places I've rented before I've just had door wedges to keep them open (one place even had them when I moved in).

I'd also like some clarification on this.

I am an apartment owner in Dublin city. ALL doors in the apartment are on hinges. Can I remove these?

well as the "hinges" are the metal parts that hold the door to the frame your doors would fall down if you remove the hinges if they have door closer,s which keep the door closed then they are there to comply with the regs
