    hi guys, quick question. i need 4 new tyres but my current ones are 215/55/16. can i put 205/55/16 on it as they are significantly cheaper. would there be any safety issues or effect on wear?

    Yes they will fit and work fine.

    Will probably be fine. Just be aware that they have a shorter rolling radius so your speedo will over-read a bit more than usual.

    They'll be fine. Be careful your speedo will be slightly lower.

    Going up 10mm made mine go from slightly under to bang on right

    VW Passat normally have 215/55/16 97WR XL tyres on, fitting 205/55/16 91VR are cheaper but may affect driving control and the tyres wont be rated for the max weight of the car.
    Basically the insurance might not cover you in an accident unless the car manual says it can have those tyre's on.

    Make sure if your changing them to replace all four or it will bring your ABS light on.

    Passats with 16 inch steel wheels came from the factory with 205/55 16 91V rated tyres fitted so there should be no safety concerns.

    That is why I asked the OP what kind of car it was, so that I could be sure that there were no such issues before recommending one way or the other.
