JSA or JSB?

    Hi there

I moved to Ireland from UK last year, to be close to my mum who is Irish and living here now since 2001. She is getting on and will need looking after in the next few years, so partner I decided to move over while property was cheap.

We applied for benefits when we first arrived, knowing we'd be refused, but really just to get our names down in the system as being here.

My partner is self employed, and we are really living on our savings and house equity at the moment - less than 10k.

In April I got a part time job at a supermarket. Not bad to begin with but the department manager is a total fiend, one of those who likes to make the ladies cry regularly and generally acts like Judge Jury and executioner. He's decided to pick on me now but Im made of strong stuff and went to personnel to have a word about it - basically they said 'dont take it personally, yes he is abrupt' so it looks like they'll protect management and ignore staff concerns.

My health has also suffered - have a rash/frostbite like problem on my hands where no gloves were provided when working in freezers, plus I have had several bouts of bronchitis since working there, which hasn't helped my relationship with the Ogre.

I've worked in UK paying full contributions since 1990, never been out of work, now that I have worked here in Ireland, does this mean my UK contributions can be counted towards an application for JSB? I am reading a lot about the HRC, but someone told me at work this doesn't count now as I've paid 12 weeks PRSI.

I'm looking at going to college in september, thanks to the ogre I've been inspired to do something, rather than just take his attitude.

Basically, if I leave giving a weeks notice this week, and state that I am leaving as my health situation does not suit the job and I am unwilling to be bullied and wlll be looking for another job to support myself, will I be entitled to anything?

Your help and knowledge appreciated - Tara

If you are ill due to work related problems you need to see you gp and make a claim for illness benefit,if required. You need 13 weeks prsi payments in order to re-qualify for benefits.

If you leave your work voluntarily, I wouldn't count on getting anything for at least 9 weeks.
