lads, I have sky tv for years now... I have my main tele with the sky plus box underneath and in the room that we live in I have a magic eye, this room has a digital tv, it's prefect for what I want but would like to reduce the cost .. my question is if I was to get a saorview box and then another box ( uk channels & recording facilities) to replace my sky tv box would I still be able to use my magic eye in the other room...
Thanks, hope this makes sense

If the box has an inbuilt modulator (which I doubt) then yes it's fairly simple, if not then you will need something like the Triax Tri-Link which is an external modulator that you fit to the scart socket, then you will have magic eye functionality. It will only work on one box, mind, so you may want to consider a sat/terrestrial combo, look for internal analogue modulator in it's spec to save buying the Triax kit.

There is currently no Combi box with build in modulator on the market, even if there is it will not work straight with magic eyes, get combi box and Triax trilink and this will do!
Remember recording will not gonna be as easy as on sky boxes.

There's these 2 Technomate combis. Hardly an obscure make. None of the Saorview approved combis have a modulator though.

Does that "digital TV" have a Saorview tuner?

If the digital TV in that room has its own Saorview tuner the Saorview signal can be carried on the existing co-ax cable to the TV.

Another option not mentioned so far for the "uk channels & recording facilities" is a Freesat+ PVR with 7 day guide, twin tuners (watch one/record one or record two), digital text etc. Very user friendly for a household moving over from a Sky receiver. The Triax tri-link would also be required for that receiver.
