Tyre Recommendation?

    Hi there,

I am looking to buy a pair of tyres for my bike. I have a set of Mavic Askiums on my bike which I mainly use for commuting to and from work (approx 150-200km per week) I had Durano Plus Performance on the last year and I only got 1 puncture. Not too bad. I weigh approx 100kg.

Although I am happy with Durano's the Ultremo ZX's are on special for €60.00 a pair. Can anybody recommend another tyre or if anybody is or has used the Ultremo's, can they let me know how they got on?

    Thanks,

    Mark.

With Durano plus your sacrificing some weight for additional puncture resistance, though not as much as with Marathons or Gatorskins. Ultremo's are lighter and will roll better but be more prone to punctures. While I use Durano plus myself and love them, consensus here seems that Conti GP4000s are a great all round option.

I use Ultremos, they are fine.

Someone will come along and say they are terrible and recommend Gatorskins

Someone else will come along and say Gatorskins are terrible in the wet, I use Marathon Plus

Mr Gatorskins will say "Marathon's? they're shite -I had 18 punctures on them before I got out of bed this morning, but have gone boating with my Gatorskins, they're that awesome when it's wet"

    Then someone will recommend GP400's.

Go for what you fancy, not what someone on the internet tells you is teh shit

I have had good experience with Michelin Pro 3. You can get two of the newer Pro 4's with two free tubes on CRC for €58. Duability might not be as good as yours but I have found puncture resistance and grip very good on the Pro 3's

I haven't tried the Pro 4s, they are supposed to be better and I would be interested in any opinions on these.

    continetal grand prix...or specialised armadillo...
both faster than gators... the armadillo give a little away to the conti's for front grip but are tough as hell..

Can't go wrong with Continental Grand Prix 4 Seasons.
