As the title says im after some wood for a guitar build.
I know of some instrument builders around Galway but they are a bit reluctant to deal with me. I just keep getting "Come back again another day and I'll sort you out"
I get that they want the business from me rather then sell me the wood but im not after a 2.5k custom built guitar. Its something i want to work on myself.

The mills I've went to will only sell in large quantities that are way out of mu price range.

Does anyone know of any place around galway city and county that i can source the wood?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    I'm miles from Galway, but.....

I've bought all sort from a local timber yard. single planks of maple etc were fine, no minimum order so long as it was a full plank.

I've also scrounged HUGE amounts of wood from skips, especially the one at a big Shopfitter near me. Walnut, mahogany, cherry, Cedar, oak, and loads others......

I got a load (like 2 trailers full) of mango & rosewood from a furniture importer. it was damaged in transit from India and the insurance had paid out so I was doing him a favour to take it away.......

Black walnut flooring planks? about 60 from freegle/freecycle.

and I got a load of mahogany from old tabletops and the frames of blackboards in a school....

oh yeah, and enough 2" thich mahogany bar top (from a social club) for 4 Les Pauls.

    scrounge young grasshopper!!

Ive gotten very old 2" mahogany tabletops from my local pub
Ive pulled planks of 6x2 off-cut Iroko teak in over 4' lengths from a skip on a school I was working on

Keep your eye on schools where they are cladding the outside
and refurbishment jobs , the older the timber the better tonewise
