Should I have been cut?

It was captain's prize round 2 today at our club. I shot a net 71, par 72. There were 60 entrants. Only 5 golfers returned lower scores than me yet it doesn't appear that I am getting cut. Quite frustrating for me as I'm trying to get the handicap down. I would have thought that the CSS should have been high enough for me to be below it?

Also, last week, well over 100 entries, scored 75 (+3) and made the cut for today and got 0.1 back. Was really surprised at that too.

Should I contact our handicap secretary about this?

Without the full details i.e. your handicap and SSS but it looks like the competition standard scratch was 70 for round 1. Being 5 shots off the CSS, you get 0.1. Today you were in the buffer zone and didn't beat the CSS so you don't get cut or get 0.1 back.

One - they probably havent closed off the computer yet.
Two - only 60 entrants can affect it - but I'd still wait till tomorrow before losing the plot over it :)

The full results are up on How Did I Do. Hence the worry that the hoped for cut hasn't happened! I'll check again tomorrow.

    Thanks for the responses guys.

BTW- how is CSS actually calculated?

its a complex formula based on the set standard scratch for the course and then multiplie by number of entrants who are cat1, cat2, cat3, cat4 and calculating the number who were better than the set standard scratch versus those who were outside the buffer. Used to have to be done by hand back in the day, but thankfully the computer works it all out on the spot now.

Results up on How Did I do - but handicapping can take longer through going through the GUI servers sometimes. I believe the masterlist is updated at the GUI at two times during the day : 2 am and 10am or something like that

if you have further queries on it, check your handicap information on golfnet.ie before going to the handicap secretary with it. Your answer could be in there before you investigate further, but again in general, golfnet wont be updated until after the central server does its update at one of those two timeslots

I've seen competitions where nobody has been cut. The CSS is difficult to understand.

You shot a 71 nett on a par 72 but CSS could be as low as 69 or something like that
