Buses cancelled without notice

No. 16 bus coming into the city from Ballinteer. I was waiting an hour until someone kindly informed me of a concert in Marley park where the buses were diverted to. Basically instead of providing extra buses to take concert goers from Marley Park the scheduled buses were diverted there and anybody along the route between 10 and 11 or later was left standing bewildered when no buses arrived and eventually when they did arrive an hour late they were pack to capacity and just sped by.

VERY SLACK SERVICE FROM CIE

Dublin Bus didn't put any extra buses on to the concert - that service was provided by a private operator.

I'd say the 16s just got stuck in the traffic either side of Marlay Park - in both directions.

Dublin Bus DID put on concert buses.

Lots of service cars were off yesterday city-wide, due mainly to staff shortages, but staff who were in, worked the concert as overtime.

I suspect the issue here is the provision of a DEDICATED concert shuttle service,of the Slane Castle type.

Up to 2011,BAC provided this service to Marley Park, however last year the promoters decided to enter a new arrangement with a private operator....

This however, does not preclude BAC from having to augment it's regular service as not everybody will spend the money on the dedicated service and will chance it on the 16,particularly if they have Ramblers or Taxsavers.

Some of the confusion may be down to the fact that the service as I observed it on Saturday was being run by a collection of private operators, most using ex DB vehicles, and at least one of whom of whom had NOT yet repainted them out of DB livery !!

On the service on Saturday, I noted 5 ex DB RV types, 1 x lowfloor decker, and a gaggle of coaches and minibuses.

It's that darn Hi-Viz Yellah again Conway635...EVERYBODY see's it so clearly.....;)

Still, the mixture of vehicles (and Types) was of great interest to the Enthusiast Community I would imagine....although perhaps less so to the disabled,as more than a few appeared to be High-Floor Touring coaches ?

    ;)

Thread title is misleading, DB buses are never cancelled, they 'do not operate'.

The ESB are similarly paranoid about terminology, they never have power cuts, they're called 'interruptions in supply'.

Irrespective of all of that, I suspect the issue with the 16 was traffic related on Grange Road.

Here is an example of one of the private buses operating still in DB livery - I would challenge the casual passenger to distinguish between this and an official DB service !!

By the looks of it the garage staff's artistic attempts were not successful at stopping the new owners from using DB liveried buses on the streets.

Perhaps they should up the ante and put a call out for budding banksy's to unleash themselves on the withdeawn AV's. It is likely a lot of these could end up back on Irish roads and on service work not just private hire.
