70 cm dish with multi lbs

    Hi,

I have a 70cm dish aimed at 28.2 e at the minute but I was thinking
of getting a Polish card for the football.

If I am taking in 13e, I am guessing I might as well add 19 and 26 as well.

Am I wasting my time trying to do this with a 70cm? as everyone seems to recommend a TRX88. My dish is currently on the front of the house so I would rather not get a bigger solid dish.

I could move the whole setup to the garage roof, am I better off getting a bigger or motorised dish for there?

Hi u would need a td 88 at minimum and it will have to be pointed directly at badr 4 at 26 east it can be difficult to lock onto because of the much more powerful 28.2. U will have to reconfigure the triax multi lnb bracket so that the 26 east lnb is direct on as if u where using the standard lnb holder and 19 and 13 will be installed to the left if u are standing behind the dish u should get a reliable moderate rain fade margin on badr 4 if u use something like a black ultra single

    Thanks for the info Karl,

Would it just be simpler to get a motorised dish?

Yes it would be better preferably a td 1.1 then u will get heavy rain margin what channels are u after on badr

Karl is spot on when he asks which channels you're after on BADR.

If your primary interest is football check the channels on BADR4. Premier League football is out of the question on this satellite position and you will likely suffer rainfade on BADR4, even with a prime focus 88cm.

If you can do without BADR a Wavefrontier 90cm will do a great job for you. Hotbird, Astra at 19.2 and 28.2 will all beam in and you'd have the option of a few other satellites as well. All this without waiting for a moving dish to reach its destination. The limitations are about 40 degrees of the arc.

Best solution is, as suggested, a motorised dish but if it's on the roof you'll need to be concerned about weather issues and how exposed it is. But if you do go motorised go for 1.2m as 0.8W (at least) will need this

Thanks a lot for all the info.

I had a closer look at my options and I can't actually get a dish on the garage roof as I don't have clearance over the neighbours house.

My current dish is on the front of the house and I think thats where it will have to stay. Which means I can't get anything too big up
there as it will look awful, probably limited to about 90 cm, mesh is possible.

I guess I am better off just stick three lnbs on a dish like that, as it won't be big enough to pick up more marginal stuff. I would get Hotbird and the two astras, if I align to 19.2. I will probably then just get a a Canal+ sub and maybe Setanta as well.

In case anyone else is trying the same thing.

I set up my three lnbs on the 70 cms dish last night. Went for 13, 19.2 and 28.2. Got all three lined up within an hour. It will need more adjustment in bad weather I'd say but its working perfectly now.

I left the dish pointed to 28, so the two additional LNBs are to the left of the main one looking from the back of the dish.

One thing that surprised me was the focal length of my dish is only 30 cm, which meant a displacement per degree of only 5.4mm. This made things very tight as I didn't buy slimmed down lnbs, but it did fit.

Rescanned everything through the switch and have about 3000 channels now. Now to buy some cards.

possibly should have aligned on 19.2 east? that means hotbird is 16 degrees offset at the moment? Just for the record I aligned a dish (70cm Gilbertini) on 19.2 east with offsets on 13 and 28 east. 19 and 28 east where fine in the majority of weather (apart from snow), but 13 east gave up very easily in moderate to heavy rain.

Even a prime focus 70cm trained on Hotbird will suffer rainfade on some of the channels.

Don't go for the slimmed down LNBs on this set-up. Rainfade, and settled raindrops for hours after rainfall, will make it a nightmare!

Yeah, I full suspect rain fade will be an issue.

In the long run I will probably centre on 19.2.

The current showers will be a good time to test it anyway.
