    1. What is your budget? 1300 approx

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? gaming

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? yes

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? no

    5. Do you need a monitor? yes

5a. If yes, what size do you need. 24". the LG seems to be one to get

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? [1920x1080/1440x900/etc.] [Yes/No]

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? yes, mouse, mouse mat, keyboard, speakers

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? yes

    8. How can you pay? online banking

    9. When are you purchasing? thursday

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based? Dublin but I should be fine.

Well I've been stalking these boards for the last few months now and it's finally time to join 'the glorious pc master race' to quote another board member.

I'm looking to build a pc that will last me a fair while (my current pc is almost 10 years old now, though it's not a gaming pc). I'm thinking a pc that I can sli in the future so the appropriate board and psu will be required. I would like peoples thought on this. Is buying a second gtx 760 in say 2 or 3 years time (basically when my single 760 can't handle the latest game) a sound idea? or should i forget about sli and save money by getting a cheaper board & psu? I don't mind spending the extra 50 quid to somewhat future proof my build a bit.

Also...and I don't want to start some sort of fight here... ivy bridge or haswell? My thinking is that if I'm getting an overclockable board capable of sli I'm nearly at haswell prices as it is. I've put together a few builds (which I'll post once I figure out that scripting thing) and my haswell build is 50 quid more than my ivy bridge which in turn is 50 quid more than my non sli capable build. The haswell build is based on the MSI g45 gaming board, the MSI 760 and the be quiet 700w silver rated psu

I don't have a budget as such but after going through idealo.de (and saving some cash in the process) my haswell build came to just over 1300 so that's my limit.

Looking forward to your input and finally buying this thing!

Looks good. I'd probably find an extra €20 for the Nanoxia deep silence one case though.

You don't need thermal paste. The 212 comes with decent paste.

Yeah that nanoxia case is pretty sexy. And all those fans!

cool. right just a few questions about the protocol re: ordering from hardwareversand. I have an aib account with internet banking but if needs be I can run into a branch during my lunch.

right so i get paid on thursday. Ideally I want to do this money transfer first thing Thursday morning so i get my delivery asap.

Please correct me if I'm wrong about the following.

    1. I submit my order say tomorrow (Tuesday)
    2. Hardwareversand will mail me with their iban details etc
    3. I then just do an online money transfer to this IBAN number

    is that it?

also if anyone has any experience getting packaged games with gpus that haven't come out yet (i get a free copy of Splinter cell: Blacklist with my gtx 760, but the game isn't released untill the 20th August)

Should I be looking for the download code of them immediately (ie sort of pre ordering the game)
or should I follow up after release?

    Thanks for all the help!

Procedure is correct. Just remember that it's the "Intended Purpose" field (it'll be a number string) that you use as the reference.

As for the games, I've no clue I'm afraid. :)

Build looks great. I'll third what's already been said and say you should go for the DS1 as well.

I'll throw my support in for the DS1. The case is incredibly silent, even when the case fans are at full load it is quiet.

Thanks guys. yeah going for the DS1. Forgot about that beauty when i was doing my build. One question. After I make the order how long does it take hardwareversand to send me the mail with their account details? Is it immediate or does it take a day or two?

    Less than an hour, usually.

Ok guys. Got the parts delivered last night and finished the build.
    2 things

    1. The mouse is unresponsive on the bios screen. I can only use the keyboard. There is a mouse 'symbol' . I got a driver disk with it so ill just install that and see what happens/

    2. my disk drive won't open so I can't install windows. A green light appears when I press the button but nothing happens.

I finished the build late last night so when I saw these issue I just went to build. Any ideas?

Is it possible you only connected either the sata or sata power and not both to the back of the ODD? You could also try use your dvd drive off your old pc as long as it isnt ide?

As for the mouse it could just be the driver needs to be installed.

Thanks. I actually just got the cd drive working. I switched around the sata ports and it is now working.

Another question. I have my DVD/SSD/HDD plugged into sata ports. They are all recognized in the bios but my ssd wasn't recognized when I was adjusting the boor setting. When I unplugged my hdd the ssd could then be set as a boot option...... I presume this is normal?

If you've got an ASRock board, you also need to set HDD Boot Priorities. 1st, 2nd, 3rd device, etc. The boot options then auto-select the first device as boot.

Ok been running my new PC for about a week now and it is outstanding. Completly silent, boots up in like 4 seconds or somthing and is absolutly crushing any game I have thrown at it so far. BTW that Nanoxia case is a beauty but it is feckin huge. I thought midi towers were the same size as my old Dell. Just shows how long I've been out of the PC buying game for.

Just one question. I found the build itself a bit tougher than I thought it would be. My cable managment is ok. Good not great. I give myself a c- in that regard. The cpu power cable [8 pin (or in my case 2x4 pin clipped together)] was a bit tough to fit to its connector as there wasn't much wiggle room between the various componants in the case. Anyway after rearanging my room and moving the PC it refused to turn on. I opened the case and saw that the CPU cable had disconnected. I reconnected and all is fine. My only worry is that although the cable fits fine, for such an important connection it doesn't seem very stable. There is some tension in the lead going to the PSU and I fear that it may 'pop out' if anyone was to accidently knock into the pc. I'm sure if this happened while it was on I'm gonna have a bad time.

Anyway is this normal? Should the cable 'clip in' and be secure? The same goes for my mainboard power cable (12 pin?). It jusy seems to sit there without being held in place.

Is the cable stretched to the max? This can happen a lot in bigger cases. You can get an extension cable so it has some slack.

The clip should hold it securely in place. I find it almost impossible to pull those clips off when disconnecting especially on the 24 pin. I feel like im going to break the board.

It's not streched it's just the bend and lenght in the lead that means it doesb't fit vertically down. The lead also definatly won't bend enough for me to run through the back of the case so it goes around the front (ie over the side of the GPU - but without placing any pressure on it.)

I'll open her back up when I get home cas my 24 pin definatly kept popping out when I doing my cable managment

Now that I've actually built a functioning machine I'll go back and re do my wiring

You can get extension cables to fix that. I had the same issue with the eight pin power cable.
I'm sure one of the lads will link a suggestion.
