    Hi Trisha XxX

I was wondering the same thing. I'm doing Psychiatric Nursing, but I'm just wondering is it really necessary to do this course? I'm only 23 so I'm not that long out of education, and I would need to give up work sooner than I had planned if I do decide to do it....anyone else thinking about doing it?:o

I guess it depends on the person Im 25 out of school a while now lol I feel for myself it could help. But if you feel confident maybe you dont have to go. Best of luck with your course :-)

I only went to one day of it last year, not really necessary but it's a nice way to meet other mature students.

Nah there wasn't too many there, lecture hall was nearly empty, I just brought a pen and notepad. They give you study tips etc which may be of use to you.

Yeah I thought this would be a good way to meet people before starting. So what subjects you hoping to do?

I'm not sure... I want to keep my options open. I have English, History, Philosophy and Classics in my mind. But also interested in other subjects. I'm intending to go to taster lectures to get proper feel for them. Hoping to do primary school teaching in the end, but again nothing is definite.

As far as I know they are on the first week of lectures from sept 9th. You don't have to decide your subject choice straight away, they give you a week to decide. I think thats the way it works anyways! What about yourself? What are you interested in? I'm really looking forward to it... I think I may end up being a swot! Was not like that in school!

I did it last year. The study tips and all that were grand but TBH I left early during the maths week as it was of no use to me (I'm doing science so some of you may not need to do it). But I'm so glad I went as I met two great people, one of whom is on my course so it's worth it just to make friends. Best of luck everyone :)

cant you only do children studies if on the specific course GY110
Cant do Children studies if on GY101 arts course. Have to be on GY110 and the BA Arts with children studies course to study children studies.

What was the maths week like?
It's optional to attend right ?
What do they do in the maths week ?

Well I didn't stay around for it as I was staying in a hostel on my own and the days were finishing at 1 and 2 pm so I didn't like waiting around in the evenings.

Ya it's optional I think but recommended, especially if it's been a while since you did maths.

Here's a copy of the workshop itinerary from last year
    Return to Learning Programme
    Mathematics Module
    Day 1 – Foundation topics
    · Types of numbers
    · Brackets and precedence rules
    · Basic laws of arithmetic
    · Factors and prime numbers
    · Fractions
    · Ratios and percentages
    · Decimal numbers
    · Powers
    · Logarithms

Day 2 – Introduction to algebra
    · Algebraic expressions
    · Powers
    · Logarithms
    · Multiplication of algebraic expressions of a single variable
    · Fractions
    · Division
    · Factorisation of algebraic expressions
    · Transposition of formulas
    · Polynomial equations
    · Factorisation of cubic polynomials

    Day 3 – Pre-calculus
    · Real numbers and the real line
    · Inequalities and absolute values
    · The rectangular coordinate system
    · Graphs of equations
    · Functions
    · Graphing functions
    · Operations on functions
    · Trigonometric functions

If I was to do it again, I'd probably attend the Pre-Calculus day, as Calculus was an absolute nightmare on my course last year. I don't know if it would have helped, but it wouldn't have done any harm :)

Ya it's optional they told me in a email.
But I will only attend the day 3 for calculus as that I think be useful to me. Prob skip day 1 & 2 as I already know them
