    Hello,
Can this still be got and where, reading on the internet I see that it was banned but was allowed for sale up until a certain point in the uk anyway, not sure about Ireland. I know roundup will kill it, but don't want to spray with that, also grass is too high at this stage for using a licker.
Would a strong dose of mortone kill it?
    Thanks

Like you i could do with finding out myself. i,m reading too that thee ban has been lifted in the uk, but cant find anything on ireland. I have a bit of ground that i cleared off a bit earlier in the year thats got a fair bit. i was hoping to bbale it, and then reseed after i pull the ditches out of it, but im not sure now. is it even safe to let a couple of strong stores into clean it off or will i have to go out and try pull every bloody fern in the place.

Is it just to tidy it up you were going baling it for,I wouldn't be too keen on feeding it to stock though with the ferns

Its ground i bought that i intended baling for dry cows. theres a few in through a couple of fields and th last one has a serious ccrop. i am going to spray them all anyway as i definately need to reseed it.

    hi chippy,

don't go pulling a fern it'll cut you to the bone!! also they have a mass of complex deep roots!

Mortone doesn't knock a feather out of them, grazon 90 only burned edges...spot spray with roundup would be my advice.. time well spent

you could cut it and spend a bit of time removing the fronds from silage.. horrible plant to get rid of:mad:

Careful with pulling out ditches reclaiming land Chippy. You need to have prior approval of Dept and have planted a replacement hedge before you take it out. Big penalty on your Single Farm Payment if you don't.

if the ban in the UK is lifted you wouldn't have far to go to get it;).

These guys are distributors for it in Ireland and the site says that they still do it. Give them a call to see what co-op has it in your area.

Have contacted the local co-op,asulox is going to be back on sale. Quoted €105 for 5 litres. What sort of a chemical: water ratio does it need to be applied at?

Here's a picture of ferns that have been sprayed with mortone, while spraying rushes just done a small area to see what would happen. They seem well burned but I suppose time will tell if it is effective at killing them completely

Did they say when? That price isn't out of the way, maybe three years ago the cheapest I could find was €99 for 5 litres.

Gone completely after the first? We have a field that's bad behind the fences with them.

Would connacht gold keep it? How much would 5 litres do and when would be best to spray them?

Their website must be out of date. I just rang them, they're no longer the distributors and haven't been for a long time. The girl I was talking to had no idea who was the current distributor.

Didn't bought the IFJ for the past few weeks. Always something of interest of it when u don't buy it.

Who is the main supplier of it now in Ireland. Has anyone purchased it in the Leinster area. Very little information on the internet about it.

    did they mention price?

105 euro in connaught gold, may seem dear but consider the price of grazon and thistlex 46 and 33 a litre

Between the jigs and the reels in the other thread I almost forgot. Asulox did get a mention at the Hill Farming Forum on Friday, farmers were complaining it was gone off the market so how to control bracken to keep land in GAEC? Department said it will look at the issue again next year, so don't be surprised if you see it for sale again next year.

It was only licensed for sale and use for a certain period of the year.

It will kill bracken, usually the problem using it is it kills everything else which isn't usually desirable when just killing bracken.
