PROBLEM - 580ex2 or yongnuo 622c

Was trying it out the other day in the sun , on a tripod, attatched to a Yonhnuo 622c transceiver on camera and on flash.

Took about 70 shots and flash was getting hot, not sure if it was the flashes or the heat of the sun, probably both, but on the person I was shooting , I was shooting them with naked flash directly on the and was shooting around 1/640 @ f5, ISO 200 and getting some amazing shots, BUT, then, the flash seemed to JUST light the head and not the rest of the top half of the body. Never had that before.

Is the bulb screwed or is something else going on? It's firing, but the light is not spreading as it was for the other shots.

Was on channel 1 and Group A on the 622c on camera and on the 580 ex2. Did a google for help, but nothing found.

    Thanks in advance.

    M

p.s I was using disposable batteries in the transceiver and rechargables in the flash.

pps, also, I have to add, I had another 580 ex2 with me and it started to do the same. I'm thinking it could now be one of the 622c's. It could be coincidental that the bulbs are going in both 580 ex2's, but I'll check replies here first before doing anything.

Going by your settings I'd say your shutter speed is just too fast. Most canon cameras (if your using one) only have a flash sync speed of 1/200 or 1/250. And if your using off camera f,ash its better to go 1/3 to 2/3's under, 1/125 or 1/160.

If you could post an example of the picture as an example I could give you a better idea but that would be my guess.

You say you were getting good shots at first but was that at the settings you quote in your post. Were all your shots good and not so good shot at those settings? I would tend to agree with the WheresMyCamera regarding sync speed.

it was all done at HSS and first set of pictures were great, but then the fllashe just seemes to light the head area and not the rest of the top half like it did the rest of the shot. I'll post examples later.

Ok, this is a god awful example of what happened, but you will get the jist. Imagine the first pic is outside on sunny day, bare flash, perfect exposure @ 1/640 f5, iso 200, then after a while i start getting shots wjhere the rest of the body is not lit and the flash is ONLY hitting the face. I didnt change the zoom on flash or anything.

p.s not my pic, I photoshopped the 2nd pic, just to illustrate where the light was JUST hitting the face and not the rest of the body

i checked the flash and transceiver tonight and they're working fine now, so maybe after 60+ shots they can both over heat, so will keep that in mind next time.
