New Farmer Query

    Hope you can help.
I recently bought 20 acres of farmland that hasn't been maintained in years.
My plan is to tidy up the farm & fix up the outbuildings, sheds, etc & get a few cattle in the next year and see how it goes from there re expansion.
I have a cattle crush & old shed.
I am working also but would like to get into farming too.

I have the application form filled out to get a herd number but haven't posted it yet.
My father has a herd number but hasn't used it in a few years and it is now inactive.
I was going to re activate his herd number & transfer to me (for sentimentsl reasons) but with the paperwork that came out , I am going to get my own herd number.
    My query is:
Should I go for it as someone mentioned maybe I should hold off as there may be help ( grants, etc) next year for new farmer entry?
Also where can I get info on what assistance may be available for a new farmer startup

    Thanks in advance

Get a good ag advisor, either privat or teagasc and go from there.. Dont be sentimental with farming

I applied for my herd number in may called the local ag advisor and he helped filling out forms dropped it into the dvo and they checked was just gonna get a new herd number but they said I could reactivate my fathers old one. Had a lad come out then to check the crush and an isolation shed and that was it had the herd number in about 3 weeks after that.
