    Hi,

I've just been given a job in a late bar/night club starting next Saturday. This will be first time working in a bar, so I was just wondering does anyone with experience have any tips? More than likely I will be a glass collector, but they may decide to put me behind the bar.

    Thanks.

Since you are Clonmel I would guess it's wither Muls, O' Keeffes or. . . Friends (that fúcking place) .

Chances are you will be primarily on glasses/cleaning floors really unless someone on the job has to go home sick. More than likely they'd want already experienced barpeople serving drinks.

If they needed you behind the bar they would have to give you training first which is awkward for them. I would recommend doing a day (without pay) in a local pub. Just ask can you work the bar for the day to gain experience. They wouldn't say no to someone looking to work for free.

I doubt you'll be put behind the bar for awhile. Just keep your head up & listen to the bar staff. If its busy it could potentially get a bit stressed but just move fast. You could be asked to grab ice & stock as needed so try to be sharp as you can. If space behind the bar is tight re stocking shelves half way through the night could be a pain. The bar will have there own way of doing things so there's not much to say because you'll learn as you go.

12.5yrs of working in the nightclub/pub industry 3yrs managing a music venue actually just finished that line of work today.

My advice is dont stress yourself on your first night, have fun try and enjoy the night and it will be a good experience for you. I loved working in that environment as it was fun to be meeting different people all the time and coming across different situations almost every night we opened. There will be drunk assholes but also there will be good fun humoured drunks aswell so a night can go anyway :) but as i said enjoy it it can be good fun.

    Good luck with it.
