Off the back of another thread, how many people get paid fortnightly or monthly? Im in Kildare VEC and would love to be paid fortnightly.

Also does anyone know what the story is with this http://www.vecnpf.ie/admin/upload/1225208052FinalProgressReporttmp.doc

It seems to imply all VECs were supposed to switch to fortnightly

I'm paid monthly, but I used to have the option of a mid-monthly payment which was about a third of my salary. When I returned after a career break that stopped. I'm not sure if it's still an option, to be honest.
    City Of Dublin VEC.

I'm CDVEC. I was paid fortnightly until I got a contract, then monthly. I didn't know there might be an option? Fortnightly would suit a lot better!

In both VECs I have worked in, payment is monthly with a mid-month advance, so I get paid on the 15th and the last day of the month.

    Same as that ^^^

How did you organise the option of a mid month advance, if you don't mind me asking?

I've never been given a choice. Same as above, I've worked for two VECs and mid month advance was standard in both.

Yeah, mid month advance is just standard practice for us. Those paid per hour and not paid during holidays are paid monthly though.

So kildare don't, Dublin county and Dublin city don't. What VECs do?

Anyone worked in wicklow? I wonder will the almagamations affect this

Interesting. If its an option in one vec surely it is in all? Certainly would make the last week of the month less of a 'toast and spaghetti hoops' experience...

This. I know it's the same amount of money but I always functioned better on fortnightly rather than monthly. It is a matter of budgeting but when you have a big lump sum going in, it does look like you can afford things.... :)

I was in Wicklow this year. Monthly with a mid month advance of about a third. Much preferred being paid fortnightly!

Interesting. So what happens now we are merged? I would love a mid month advance (I'm in Kildare!). Presumably they cannot run two seperate systems

Don't know! I would hope that they might take the opportunity to change altogether and switch to fortnightly but I doubt it. I would certainly presume they want a standardised system across the board.

Unfortunately I'm job hunting again as my hours disappeared so I'm unlikely to be affected either way!

Best of luck. Things are tough out there.

Hopefully given that the department and many of the VECs all operate fortnightly they may standardise that direction :)

Just for anyone else interested KWETB have no plans for fortnightly pay (email reply from admin).

Edit: On further correspondence it appears Kildare do offer and continue to offer a monthly advance. If anyone wants the contact email please PM me.

I'd imagine that changing from monthly to fortnightly would be a huge headache. Every 14 days is very different to once/twice a month. Didn't the Dept make some booboo with the tax last year where they overtaxed teachers because they miscalculated the weeks?

We're on fortnightly in Roscommon VEC. There's been no change to that since we merged with Galway City and County VECs. So I assume they were fortnightly too.

According to info from emails this morning the training boards have 6 months to come in line with each other so nothing may have happened yet

It's an education to see such a variety of arrangements. The idea of a mid-monthly advance of about a third of salary is a totally new one for me.

I'm DES paid so fortnightly. I started out in a VEC where it was bi-monthly as distinct from fortnightly. I later worked in a fee-paying sector for a while where it was monthly.

Personally, I would prefer to be paid monthly because that's how bills work and also because being paid fortnightly actually leaves me 'short' most months when one considers the effect of being paid three times in a single month twice a year (26 pay days over 12 months). The main argument against monthly pay is of course the long gap between being paid around 20th December and the end of January, but having had experience of three different arrangements I'd still opt for monthly salary if I could.
