    Hi guys,

A question for present and past WIT students, is there much part-time/ weekend work for the college students in the city? I'm hoping to get a job as I won't be able to afford to come home every weekend and I'm just wondering what are the chances of getting (any type) of work during the academic year?

Probably the foundry nightclub would be the best place to look. You'd be working the cloakroom or picking up glasses etc. Give them a message on facebook.

Literally do not know one person who managed to find part time work last year in Waterford. Employers can have job bridge people full time for 50 quid a week. Probably why they wont pay a student at least 100 for a couple of days.

You do know its the Government that pays the extra 50 not the "employer", they pay nothing.

As fort eh jobs front as Media says there is a serious problema s most places can get someone for 38 hours for free rather than pay someone to work 10-18 hours but again the best places are probably the nightclubs and pubs

Ha even worse so. Good auld Irish government. Thats what where up against. Emigration will be so much easier as soon as we graduate.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

If I don't get a job (which is looking likely atm) is there anything to do (other than study of course) in Waterford at the weekend? I'll only be able to afford to come home once every month and I'm pretty sure the majority of first years go home at weekends so I'm trying to avoid the boredom as much as possible. Obviously something that doesn't cost money.

Times have changed i think with people going home every weekend. Also a lot of people would be from here so are already at home.

Id advise you to make friends with people who actually live here and do something with them every weekend.

If youre into the Gym Goldstones have a 250 for the year deal.

Course youre doing could be surprisingly hard and youll be happy to have a couple of free days a week. Opinion might change when you start.

    The foundry ;)

just messing there's plenty to do around - honestly if you've a bike bring it there's some fantastic cycles along the coast etc. join some clubs, theres a few good ones around - depends on your taste there really

Course the ideal would be just to get to know some people in your class or in a WIT club/society

Also check kfc and macdonalds for work - they botht ake on people every now and again part time

What are you good at? Try turning that in to a bit of work that'll pay. Teach piano lessons/take photographs/busk on the street/teach lifesaving.
