    Have one nice car

Go for an automatic if you can get one, star on the grill looks better than star on bonnet, some nice uk ones on www.autotrader.co.uk with better specs than here

Have 2011 c200 CDI. Bought last year. It's the face lift version.
Happy with the car. Economy ok. Has factory fitted features likes excellent satnav and linguatronic which I never use to be honest.

It's not as fast or as exciting to drive as a 3 series which was my last car but its comfortable and more economical in that tyres are normal price and servicing is reasonable. 3 series have been a victim of their own success in the past. You will find this out when you want to sell or trade one.
Expect a few looks because of the badge but its only jealousy and please remember, you only live once.

I would agree with the auto box suggestion.

Hi, yes I have one, ok to start , 320 cdi has the 7 speed auto box, can give torque converter problems and electric control valve can be problematic, very economical for large car,,silver best colour, buy only with service history, try get sat nav DVD option, range of option staggering, parts not expensive considering type of car, very fast, excellent to drive and handle, mine is a Brabus D6 factory built so much is better set up and higher spec than a standard S class . Code w221 , service can be expensive but shop around for an independent mercedes specialist. Car Safety is possibly the best on the road and its a top end prestige car, try get a Dublin plate as country reg cars worth less. 20" wheels max size that should be fitted, airmatic suspension option best choice. Diesel is the only option to consider, petrol s are great but will break you with running costs, I had an AMG S 65 that did 14 mpg ! Diesel always returns 34mpg plus no matter how its drove.

He's looking for advise on the C, not S-Class.

They're a decent car. The 200 is 136bhp, and is OK, the 220 is better with 168bhp. It performs nicely, a tiny bit gruff when pushed, but a quiet cruiser. The 250 is 204bhp, which is decent alright. All three have the 2143cc engine from 2009 onwards when the BlueEfficiency engines came in. Previous to that they were 2148cc, and not as economical nor as low on tax. The Blue Efficiency ones are a better bet if budget allows. The interior can be a bit drab unless you find a well kitted out one, but it's solidly built. The 2011 facelift model really changed the dash a lot for the better, much nicer inside, but do command a price premium.
Auto vs manual, in reality both are good, people in Ireland tend to have the belief that you must have an Auto if it's a Merc, but a manual in the C-Class is a perfectly good car and in fact has a good bit lower emissions over the auto, which makes a difference in VRT and tax. It has a very good chassis, and really nice steering, which makes it a nice car to drive. Doesn't feel quite as nimble as a 3-series, but when you push it it would lose nothing over a 3 series in tight corners, it tends to perform beyond expectations. Probably a more comfortable cruiser than the 3 also.
Don't buy a silver one and try to get one with as many extras as you can find, they'll help stand yours out come re-sale time.
The only other criticism is the standard 16" alloys look a bit lame.

Stretch to the C350 which has over 300bhp in a normal saloon.
