Lads my setter bitch is in pup, with 3 and 1/2 weeks left.
Just wondering have yee any tips on what to feed her.
To make sure she is well nurished and that the pups will be big and strong.
Vet gave us a course of worming tablets.
Is there anything else worth doing.
Spent 16 hrs driving to get her covered, so I want to make sure I get nice healthy pups

If you have her on a high protein and vitamin diet. I wouldn't go changing her food though at this stage. Maybe add some eggs, mince meat or chicken to her meals. When we've had pups here in the past I've given the bitch extra when the pups have been born as that's when the pups will take their biggest toll on her. If she has a big litter then it could be worth supplementing the pups with powdered lambs milk as well as letting them feed from the bitch as it gives them a good start and helps them out if there are lots of pups fighting for teets.

Tinned salmon or tuna every day the more oily the better great for bitches just feeda high quality dry feed and mix in the fish plenty nutrition in it thats what they need as the pups are sucking the nutrition out of her ,, even before they are born

Plenty of raw meat and bones, Raw chicken legs and wings are best.

Have a look at the below site it gives plenty of advise.

Best of luck when the time comes. I have a red and white setter, and she had pups back at Easter, she had 10 .Its hard work but well worth it.

Lamb lap. A small bit every day.

My lab had 12 pups. Its a bit of work keeping them hardy & fed!

Cheers lads, she was bleeding last week so got her scanned. He saw two pups with heart beats, reckons there might be two or three more , it hard to tell because they sit on each other. So 4 or 5 hopefully. 10 and 12 sounds like hard work. Thanks again.

A nice dog. Took advice on the sire, from someone who I would consider an expert on IRWS,s. IRWS,s are scarce enough as I'm sure your aware. So 8 hrs up and down twice. Left her there for a week.
I would have preferred him being a bit closer.
Got to see a bit of the country all the same.
    Hopefully some nice pups.

Irish Setter, You dont have to be rocket scientist to come up with the north.
4Hrs driving it is either south to north or vice versa.
My bitch is fairly open. Her father was import (Harry) .Her mother is Craigrua April. Breed by Jim Sheridan. Previously owned ny Eddie Flannely.
Well who do you think the sire is?
