Have notice recently that the temp gauge in the car doesn't seem to be working correctly. Usually stays around the quarter mark (instead of the usual halfway mark) the odd time while driving the gauge goes up and down fairly erratically but never over the half way mark.

Is this a common problem with the focus? Any quick (cheap) fix??? After having so many problems with the car don't think I can afford much more :(

    Not sure about the Focus,,but it's a common problem with Skoda's,VW's,and Audi's.

It's usually the Coolant Temperature Sensor. Or a chance that it's the Thermostat.

Could be one of a number of things possibly a coolant temp sensor but i havent seen this very often.

A thermostat sticking again wouldnt be very common.

Possibly the impellor broke off the water pump this I have seen a couple of times and the symptoms sound similar.

Is there any coolant returning to the bottle with the engine running ??

Ill check this out later today, hadnt noticed anything though.
If it is the impellor after breaking off can this be fixed or does it mean a new water pump??

New water pump there is no way of repairing them.
