    The report says it is the figurine of a lion. I would have said it looks more like a polar bear myself.

    I also suspect that the people who made it would be more likely to be familiar with an Arctic type of animal, such as a polar bear. Or maybe a snow leopard, than a lion.

    Just my own opinion mind you.

    Well, Germany did have cave lions, and there's no evidence that snow leopards ever made it to Europe...

    Maybe a normal leopard? At the time they too were present in those regions...
