Irish Oaks day tomorrow and it looks like a tricky enough race. Riposte to me is proven over the distance and I think with the firm ground we're going to have tomorrow, it should have too much for the opposition.

Looking at the 5:40 I see Darwin as being the pick of the bunch thanks to the weight penalty that Gordon Lord Byron has and the fact that Darwin is that bit more lightly raced this season.

Leitir Mor is the danger I think, not sure Darwin's trip will be 7 furlongs on firm going. It's a tricky day's racing tomorrow

Boylesports are doing a good special on the oaks...money back if second. This only applies to online, text a bet and mobile bets but is great value.I do some text betting with them and the odd time you get good value like this but only the odd time mind you!!!

Barizan at 2.55 8/1 Would be rude not to after that last win!

Still limited time to look at racing today as I only have a short time with wifi access. still no real problem as there is 2 very good NH races today at Market Rasen

    2:55 Market Rasen

Barizan was the most confident selection that I've ever made last time out , and considering how I rated him a few years ago I think the 12 lbs rise is well within his grasp here given he has perfect conditions. He was 18 lengths clear of the 3rd in his last victory and repeat at here will be good enough. I have a slight concern that his main target Is the Galway plate in a few weeks and it seems strange to be risking a possible rise in the weights for the biggest purse of its type but I can't pass up on the value at 8/1 in places. Given my slight concern about his target I'm also going for Local Hero in this as he looks sure to get back to top form here having won this last year of only 4 lbs lower. He was a good 3rd last time to Barizan and with both Barizan and Australia Day in this the race could be setup for him to come late. 11/1 looks great value for him.

    2 points win Barizan 8/1
2 Points Win Local Hero 11/1

    3:30 Market Rasen

This seems a difficult race and I'm going with my gut feeling that Donas Palm will like the good ground and only needs to recover some of his old form to be in with a chance here off a nice weight. He has won before in Galway on very good ground and I'm hoping today may well be his target. He looks worth 1 pt EW at his current best odds of 25/1. He is one of the classiest in the field in his best form.

1 pt EW 25/1 Sky Bet

Does anybody think Magical Dream is AOB best chance for Oaks glory, I am kinda put off by jockey bookings and that she may be used as a pacemaker.

Those who are cursed to carry my money today: Barizan (sorry!!), Royale's charter in the summer plate, giving kitten on the run one last chance in the opener at Newmarket & backing peniaphobia in the 3.50 at Newbury. Will be watching the opener at the curragh very closely, some absolutely fabulously bred horses in there, I'd be amazed if this race doesn't turn out to be a serious source of future winners...

Nothing worse waking up hungover. You need to find a winner or two to go to a party later. But your heads pounding and their are 8 cards to look at. Only thing to do is stick with alive alive oh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,474 ✭✭✭longshotvalue

    5:10 curragh

Just a quick extra longshot. Norville is a much bigger price here than I expected and of a very good mark looks worth a min bet at 40/1 ew with coral.

    1/2 point ew 40/1 coral .

Going with yorkshire relish in the supersprint today.

Alive Alive Oh, don't see the fascination in her, she beat a half fit Magical Dream last time out and was getting 3lbs, I can see O Briens filly reversing form with her today. Her sire hasn't produced anything that looks a real Group 1 performer so I couldn't back her with any confidence at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,335 ✭✭✭✭UrbanSea

The French filly could give a real boost to Treve's form but she looks as ungenuine as they come

There is no way she should be expected to reverse the form she was absolutely ran in to the ground by her. Are you just assuming she was half fit?

Don't like writing off horses with form purely by their sire. You know Duke had no stakes winners last year yet has had 7 this year as three year olds all fillies bar one.Sure two of the fillies that are single figure prices are by Duke of Marmalade and this is probably the best Irish Oaks in years

What you guys reckon of Barizan's chances this time out? 12lb rise from last win when a few of us from here were on him.

Highest rated horse he has produced is Count of Limonade who is nowhere near a top class horse, don't get me wrong I could be totally wrong but I just feel that her last win was really flattering for her. I have no way of known whether Magical Dream was half fit but most of AOBs horses come on for a run and you would have to assume she wasn't 100% after 8 months off the track and I think her best form is on better ground.

EDIT - And how on earth is Venus De Milo 7/1 thats a shocking price should be at least double that.

Would be disappointed if he wad the highest rated of them by the end of the year think he's below stakes company and got a bit lucky that he got.such a good opportunity to get black type

I could never back any of his horses, its either a feast or a famine with him

    2 bets today each way

Donnas palm 3.30 Market Rasen 20/1
Venus de Milo in the oaks 7/1

I was impressed with venus de milos's 2 wins. I backed her both times as I knew she was entered in the oaks. she was second string on both her starts and was only really put into both races very late with a bit of work to do. I think she has a bit of class.

Officially Joesph has chosen just pretending but it didnt stop me backing her the last twice.

O'Brien's best 2yo fillies last year are a disappointing bunch of 3yos, the later maturing types are his best shot at it, even the supplementary entry Venus De Milo can't be taken at face value. The cost of supplementing her being justified by the likelihood of her running into a place fairly handily and hence boosting her sires earning potential for the owners.

If Talent runs to form she'll beat Riposte, with the French horse or Venus De Milo the only ones likely to spring a surprise in the race.

What about Bolgers filly she could run well at a big price, step up to 12f should suit judged on pedigree.

A strange jump in trip for a horse that went back to a mile twice after running at 10f, but that's Jim anything is possible, the bookies may be your best guide.

The pedigree says she'll probably stay 12f, but her full siblings sisters were milers, the Guineas 2nd placed Cuas Ghaire and the Guineas 3rd and Coronation Stakes second Gile Na Greine.

Lads youd have to think Weld's filly could be very good Carla Blanca finished a close second to Australia who looks useful and had the benefit of a run, pair clear

Bit off putting how close they finished and with Talent under performing but Treve must really be top class to hammer her. Could be the best fully since Zarkava.

Am i correct in thinking that is the first classic winning filly by Montjeu

A crap race form wise, run at a ridiculously slow pace, I wouldn't trust the form for a second. It will be interesting to see how Talent comes out of this race, she needed a fast pace as did Libertarian in the Derby. Will be having a punt on both of them if they run in a race like the Leger or Arc.

The first Gp1 winning 3yo filly ever by him and only the third ever Gp1 winning filly or mare he's produced and the other two were in Canada.

Did he have a stint in the Southern Hemisphere as a Stallion? He seems to have done well in Aus and even had a 5yo 7f Gp1 winner in New Zealand.

Was going to say I remember Miss Keller winning one out in Woodbine the other one's name evades me.

Don't think he was down there but seemingly did well which is surprising given how Galileos did terrible in Australia who like them early. One of the reasons id be unsure of So You Think down there at a big price, strange how High Chap does so well there he gets a totally different type in Europe predominantly

Hi, Did anyone place a bet on yesterdays race in Newbury at 1.05. I did and when it won I was told they weren't covering it. It was on the paper and on the screen in the bookies and I watched the race there after placing the bet.
