When you buy from Evans you will pay the high rate of 23% Irish vat rate...The reason being any European country selling over 35,000 euro a year to Ireland has to pay the vat to our rip off government..When I discovered this I immediately started to buy all my bike bits from online German bike stores where the parts are much cheaper and you only pay 19% German vat rate!

They will charge Irish VAT if registered for VAT in Ireland, UK VAT otherwise, but not both

If you are ordering a smallish enough size parcel and use a Parcel Motel address you should be only charged the UK rate.

What's the problem paying VAT in Ireland?! Surely it's better for us all that shops such as Evans and Chainreactioncycles register for Irish VAT as opposed to paying VAT in Germany?

It costs more. We're in recession, remember? Every little helps. All goes to Germany in the end.

I am sick and tired of being ripped off in this country,it is getting harder and harder to live here, and why? to pay for massive cock ups from the elite fraudsters who now all live in the lap of luxury abroad while the rest of us scrape by....That is why I buy as much as I possibly can from foreign countries and to avoid giving my hard earned cash to Ireland to pay for these criminals!

No problem - sure we're happy to pay our taxes here and support you!

I'm sure the Germans would argue it would also be better if we didn't facilitate aggressive tax avoidance by multi-nationals - the way they facilitate consumers avoiding our extortionate VAT rates.

Also we're in the EU and should be able to shop across borders.

On a personal note my recent pay cut has left me less inclined to express solidarity through my cycling related spending :)
